: Tuner Purchase
Butler68 01-19-2009, 09:50 PM I am looking at the Chevy Juice with Attitude. I have a 2002 chevy with 100k miles and auto trans. I also have an intake and exhaust.
Is there a better tuner for the price?
How do people like this one?
Where should I buy it?

I have heard the same about the edge products. but I never tried one. maybe someone else can help you. good luck
AlligatorPerformance 01-19-2009, 10:55 PM The PPE standard is the best selling Duramax on this forum and is the absolute best canned tuner in the business.
Another good option is the Diablosport Predator tuner, probably the most hp for your buck you can get. Very highly rated amongst dp members too.
If you have to have shift on the fly capabilities with monitoring and back down safety features, look the Banks Six Gun seems to be the least problematic module you can buy for a LB7.
If you don't want to spend over a grand on that, the Bully Dog PMT is a nice unit, not the best Dmax tuning in the business but it has proven to be a good mileage and mild power tuner for the dollar. It has all built in backdowns and gauges with a clean, readable format.
soot04max 01-19-2009, 11:04 PM I do have a Banks 6 Gun with the speedloader for the LB7 that I dont use and would consider selling. I used it for 1 year with no problems. I just wanted to go faster with the new tranny build so I went with EFI live. the Banks does tow very well.
Butler68 01-19-2009, 11:07 PM Is there any reason why people buy the Standard over the Hot or Hot +2?
Is there anything else I need to do to the engine to handle this kind of power?
Will a new torque converter make the trans strong enough or do I need more?
How do you change the levels? Do you have to have the programmer out to change levels?
Thanks

with the Banks system you have a knob mounted in the dash that has 6 position switch that you just turn while driving. I think 1 was stock power and level 6 with the speedloader was 155 extra hp. I limped my tranny with the Banks on level 6 when it was stock.
Butler68 01-19-2009, 11:32 PM can you send me an e-mail at butler68 @ hotmail.com with the price and your location. I am also interested with what you upgraded on your trans. I don't want to limp my trans.

Most people go with the Standard because w/o a built up trans, you can't use the higher levels.
A good 4" turbo dp back exhaust would be the first mod, other than that, look at a good lift pump.
A torque converter on a 5 speed will do no good w/o internal upgrades, bare minimum, transgo kit and new Allison clutches.
To change levels on the programmer, you have to plug it in, select the power level you want and re-program the ECM. It usually takes about 5 minutes to change power levels with a PPE.
Butler68 01-20-2009, 12:17 AM AlligatorPerformance- I see you sell floor mats. I would like to find some thick rubber floor mats for the front and back. I have tan carpet. What do you have?
DO you have any thoughts on the best priced trans upgrade to handle the tuner?
AlligatorPerformance 01-20-2009, 12:22 AM Primarily we sell Husky liner brand and they have a few that fit. Here is a link to the front mats http://www.alligatorperformance.com/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=407&products_id=1975
and the rear mats http://www.alligatorperformance.com/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=407&products_id=1978
Where are you located, so I can direct you to the appropriate trans guru?
Butler68 01-20-2009, 12:25 AM Portland Oregon. I have no problem rebuilding the trans myself. I just want to make sure it is strong enough for the intake, exhaust and tuner. I might buy that banks six gun speedloader if that guy writes me. I have 100k miles on the truck and don't want to deal with trans problems. So I am just looking to make it strong enough. I will not have it on full power most of the time and will do light towing sometimes. Mostly street driving.
AlligatorPerformance 01-20-2009, 12:38 AM For a trans kit, the Suncoast III will do the trick for what you are looking to do. Call Mike L. for a trans kit, he is a vendor here and will help you with all your trans needs. http://www.inglewoodtransmission.com/
Butler68 01-20-2009, 12:51 AM Is TCS cheaper? Is it as good? I do not want to spend much. Wife will kill me!

PM sent
soot04max 01-20-2009, 06:20 AM I would always run the Banks on level 6 without problems. the only time I had went into limp mode was when I would nail it when it was in 4th gear then it would limp. but I would drag race it with no problems in all 5 gears. I had the tranny done after I removed the Banks system.

Either do it nice or do it twice in my opinion. Think what the wife will say when you have to do it again...;)
