I am new to this forum, I don't even get my truck til the end of the week, and I see a great many letters about problems with the Duramax. As I read on down the letters I usually find they trucks have been modified. Is a bone stock Duramax going to give me reliability problems? I will be pulling a 6200# travel trailer some of the time, the rest as a daily driver.

I'm bone stock and (knock on wood) have had zero problems and run smooth. You won't even know you have a tow with 6200 pounds behind you.

If you mean injectors it doesn't matter if they are stock, have chips and/or programmers etc. Also note that only a small percentage have had injector problems. I have just over 20K on mine and have only had a intercooler leak (TSB from dealer) and the glow plug module replaced. Otherwise no problems and none of the ones I had were due to modifications.

Problems -
Driver's seat creaks.
intercooler tube loose.
2 injectors.

Usage:

Daily Driver, ~15,000mi towing, minor off-road, 2 sled pulls, extensive dragracing.

I'm happy.

Someone much wiser than I said it best: "Sometimes a forum makes a problem or concern look worse than what it really is." Most people don't have any of problems with their trucks, modified or unmodified. Yeah, GM trucks have a few minor issues, but then, don't all makes/models of vehicles?

Buy it, enjoy it. Don't worry.

2004 LLY 25k stock, No issues.

I have dealt with this issue with outboards engines and the new DFI technology on boats. According to the interenet they all blew powerheads, now they are the best thing. You have to filter what you hear. Everyone with a problem will speak up. Those of us without any problems are the silent majority.

2004, 6500 miles, no problems at all, and I am usually cursed with bad luck regarding trucks.

Ditto on the 'no problems' and totally enjoying it. Driving on gnarly rough dirt roads through wash-outs, hauling whitewater river gear up & down the mountains almost every weekend.

Stock truck with 30,000 miles (10k towing). No issue other than sticky extending camper mirrors that are more random than a slot machine ;)

To all of you who have more than 20K with "no problems": Go get your intermediate shaft clunk fixed! I guarantee you have it. I every single truck I have driven with over 20K either has the clunk or has already had it fixed... If you don't think you have one yet, drop off the truck at the dealer on your way to get your hearing tested... I'm serious too...

If you don't think you have one yet, drop off the truck at the dealer on your way to get your hearing tested... Huh.. speak up sonny! :D

Actually, found my rattle in the parking lots at 5 MPH. If ya do 20 MPH and make people jump outta da way at least ya don't hear the rattle. :muahaha:

Mine ran great from the factory, and still going strong ... No steering shaft noise here. I did the EEPROM update for the "over-sensitive throttle" problem, but really could've cared less. The turbo doesn't "spool-up" more, the mileage didn't shoot through the roof, and the engine doesn't have "more power" as a result...
Don't get me wrong, I want to modify it, maybe oversized wiper blades...

:funnypost I Highly recommend the oversized wiper blades. I cant believe I paid soooo much for a truck with standard wiper blades....

18000 miles on my 2004 LLY and not a single problem or burb, NADA, zero. Predator tuner, 4" exhaust, cold air intake and EGT and boost guages are on the near horizon. I guess that'll be the start of my problems - hey - we can't let all these other guys have all the fun!

I'm really gonna miss that $1.50/gallon diesel though (last spring - New Jersey). Who'd a thunk that we'd be buying diesel at $.20 over the price of premium. Let's hope the end of heating season brings the prioce down.

Other than that - I'm diggin my truck!
