what language are you talking? did your 5 year old type this out for you?Give it a break! Not everyone writes as eloquently as YOU! Why would you see fit to insult a fellow enthusiast who is simply seeking advice? I sure hope YOU never slip on your perfect English! Get a life and stop trying to be the English Police. By the way, you forgot to capitalize the first letter of both sentences of your reply! (or did your 5 year old type YOUR reply?)

You may consider taking some of your own advice, as posted by you when somebody supposedly insulted you: "Please save your rude comments (about CALIFORNIANS being all screwed up) to yourself, we don't need the disrespect on these posts!!!!! If you choose to be disrespectful, join another post arena to express your rudeness." Now THAT was well said!

Cool...A newbie war.....):h

At any rate JC..
The transmission is hardly the weak link in these trucks....Of course, since it's mechanical, you might see a problem, but they are few and far between...As far as having to send it to allison to have it repaired....I doubt it..An allison rep might be called to inspect the unit, but unless the dealership isn't qualified to do the repair, I can't see them sending it out.
Injectors are an issue for the lb7 motors...And they seem to be an issue to a much lesser extent for the lly motor as well...I wouldn't let these possible concerns deter you from buying the truck though...There are plenty of these trucks going up and down the road today with no trouble..Of course on an internet board such as this one you're going to read about trouble with them.Lots of people come here for information about what they can do to fix a problem when they have one...
Take the truck for a drive..See if it performs to your standards..
Also, post the vin in the Ask The Techs area of this forum...When one of the guys has time, they can bring up the service history of the truck....
Good luck on your decision...

John,

I am fairly new to the Duramax scene too, so I can't offer "experienced opinion". Just remember that, while there is a lot of experience here, the problems you read about here represent only a small percentage of the vehicles out there. There is also a tendency for folks with problems to post them while many more with no problems are silent. In general, the Duramax/Allison is a great combination. Because it is the latest generation, I would favor the LLY if you have a choice. If you wait for the perfect truck, you will be walking for a long time.

Got over 100K of rough use on two D/A's. One of the reasons I like the truck (despite the 05 lack of power and pp fuel mileage) is the Allison. It is one part of the truck that is a keeper and for most of us, is totally troublefree. As a reader here, it seems the only ones having problems with the Allison are those adding power enhancements, especially very significant power enhancements. Allison in its stock configuration wasn't built for that, but it can be up graded. I had a GM rep tell me the reason they wanted to swap out any Allison problems was they actually wanted to see what went wrong and monitor it for future power upgrades. I was told Allison problems are extremely rare in non super modified trucks.
And ignore the childish critics - 99.9999999% of the people on this board are great and here only for information and to help. Too bad some of them didn't run GM.
