I have seen a few dmax and hd's with smaller driveshafts, is a larger one a factory option?

The lb7's have a steel driveshaft, and the lly's and newer have an aluminum driveshaft, which is bigger than the lb7's.

Dunno, mine is steel. I wish I had an aluminum shaft so i wouldn't have to worry about it rusting on me. Every lb7 around my area has a steel shaft.

Switching my 2008 OEM 5" x .080" aluminum drive shaft to a Danville 6" x .125" (1/8" wall) to prevent any possible failures while launching across painted crosswalks or drains (which cause the tires to slip and then instantly grab on the other side). Plus, the Danville is not necked down at the forward drive end either (6" diameter along the entire length).

Don't want any flailing driveshaft tubes beating the underside of MY truck!!!

Only problem is that they're $850 :eek::eek::eek:

i wonder if its a "factory born" thing. As in i wonder if it has to do with the state and factory the truck came from. I have no idea, just an idea??

The type of drive shaft you have is determined by your wheel base.

Your both right, the duramax trucks might be %100 specific to wheel base, but i have noticed that the steel or aluminum tends to vary by plant of assembly as a general rule for GM trucks.

why not just have someone make you a 4" steel one for , oh, i dunno $350 max? If your that worried about spitting out a driveshaft, have a driveshaft loop built. $850 is ALOT of coin for a light truck driveshaft.

I wonder if it has to do with the plant. The 11th digit of the VIN tells the plant code (at least on 2003s): http://service.gm.com/dealerworld/vincards/
2003 GMC CCSB
Aluminum driveshaft
Flint, MI plant (VIN F)
