: lb7 lift pump
VipeRTBlck 01-18-2009, 08:10 PM i believe i would like to try installing a lift pump on my truck to help pressureize my fuel filter and maybe decrease the chances of geling so fuel is being pushed through filter instead of sucked(among other perks to a lift pump). anyway by installing one it creates a pressurized system between the cp3's gerotor pump, & the fuel tank, correct? about how much pressure is this and what are some good quality outfits that sells lift pump kits for my truck?

Yes it does pressurize the system between the CP3 and the tank. Normal units, FASS, AirDog, PPE pressurize the fuel to 12 psi. Anyone of those units will do the job. I have been running a FASS HPFP 150 gph unit for going on 3 years w/o any problems whatsoever. The FASS and AirDog units come with a lifetime warranty and the PPE is one year. Let me know if I can help.

S Phinney 01-18-2009, 10:50 PM I use the TTS dual pump set-up and really like it. It does the job and you will not hear it at all.
VipeRTBlck 01-18-2009, 11:01 PM great info from everyone so far. found out my dad had the ppe one sitting downstairs somewhere waiting to be installed (were runnign duel cp3's on truck for a while but setup was removed). ppe lift pump in basement was never installed on truck; how difficult is it? do i need to put pick-up in tank as well? i'd like to just put something inline w/o dropping tank; throw 12 volts at pump, and call it good so i've got SOME pressure, that's all my goal is.
AlligatorPerformance 01-18-2009, 11:11 PM the pump is easy to install, you need about 7 feet of 1/2" diesel rated fuel line, two threaded x push lock fuel fittings, two 1/2" hose clamps and a set of fuel line removal tools. No need to drop the tank, just bend down the metal shield on the tank, remove the suction line from the top of the tank (removing the driveshaft helps alot with these two), remove the bolts from the fuel cooler mounted in front of the tank and drop it down, then remove the other end of the suction hose from behind the cooler, mount the pump to the frame, run part of the 7' of hose you have from the suction port of the tank to the pump, the route the return line from the pump to the line behind the cooler then wire the pump up to the BU Lamp 15 Amp fuse in the fuse box under the hood and your done...

sounds easy enough, confusing at parts but i get the gist of it, plus im sure ppe supplied instructions in the box. but this sounds like the route to go for my standards, sounds simple enough to do. i'll wait till summer and throw this on & see how it works.
AlligatorPerformance 01-18-2009, 11:33 PM good luck on finding instructions in the box.
VipeRTBlck 01-18-2009, 11:43 PM do i really use all 7 feet of fuel line? is it metal line or black rubber hose? the hose clamps are easy, i have fuel disconnect tools, & the 2 threaded push lock fittings you talk of; are these fittings the ones that screw into the pump itself and i attach the hose to?

Well you will if you mount the pump to the frame in front of the fuel tank. The 2 threaded push lock fittings are what screw into the pump and the hose attaches to. The factory suction line is 1/2" black braided hose with self locking ends.

ok i got ya now. and the power is tapped into anywhere that supplies a constant 12 v with key on. seems easy enough

Yes, and you can find that power with a fuse tap at the "BU LP" 20 amp fuse in the fuse box under the hood.
VipeRTBlck 01-19-2009, 07:05 PM pump i have is not ppe, it's edelbrock but looks identical to ppe one. anyways it's preset to like 12 or 13 psi and 160 gph, should i get a smaller one like 95 gph? is the 160 an overkill for my set up? i have ppe 10 level programmer run on level 5 sometimes 6 in warmer months; will 160 be too much?
AlligatorPerformance 01-19-2009, 07:23 PM Nope, just right. The Edlebrock unit is not Diesel Rated, but has worked for many here including McRat's 10 second truck. It will work for your truck too.
VipeRTBlck 01-19-2009, 07:29 PM thanks for all the instructions and info alligator; it's been helpful.
VipeRTBlck 01-20-2009, 09:02 PM just something i was thinking about today; with the lift pump i talked about(ppe 160gph) installed, or one similar to it; where does the pressurized fuel go with truck not running, key on? are there return lines to the tank?
volumejunkie 01-20-2009, 09:30 PM Kennedy's twin pumps come with a harnes that mounts on the firewall. It has a button on the bottom that turns on the pumps for priming the filter.

the two hose clamps, one on the in tank pick-up, and other on the oem steel line that will be pressurized after pump? also the hose, 1/2" id or od?
VipeRTBlck 05-07-2009, 06:25 PM installed my lift pump over weekend(sat. 5/2) and everythings great! no leaks or problems...till now(thurs 5/7). still runs fine and performs as usual but mil light is on, p0089 code, dont remember exact description but something along lines of fuel pressure. the box my pump came in said it was factory preset at 12psi. so i backed the screw down(lower psi) about 1/4-1/2 turn just to lower psi a bit. is this code normal after lift pump? how do i avoid or fix it so code doesn't illuminate mil lamp?
VipeRTBlck 05-18-2009, 06:30 PM anybody have any help on what could be causing this light? it's randomly appearing and dis appearing as it pleases now; but everytime i plug scanner in to check; it's the p0089 code..ONLY started showing this after my lift pump installation. code described as fuel pressure reg 1. again, truck seems to still perform just fine.
any help?
VipeRTBlck 05-23-2009, 11:15 AM anybody??
reese 3 05-27-2009, 07:38 PM Iam thinking about installing one as well but what if it fails while you are out on the road??? Will the truck run without it on?
VipeRTBlck 05-27-2009, 07:56 PM im not sure about that..i know there are outfits that are "flow-thru" meaning if pump 100% shuts down..fuel still flows through the factory vacuum desisn.
