Installed my new exhaust, what a huge difference. Noticed when I removed the old that I could not see through the Cat. I would think you should be able to see light through it, No?

I also noticed my cooler oil cooler lines were leaking badly, but that is another post...

I'm installing my exhaust tomorrow. Hope it doesn't rain as I have to do it in my drive way. I bought the one of Ebay. I think the same one as yours. Any tips you can give me? Also, is it really loud? and what are you doing about emmision testing?

Thanks for any tips

Louder but not too loud.
I had a hard time getting the downpipe on/off. I ended up cutting a hole in the wheelwell and welded it up when I was done. I saved the cat for Aircare, and will pipe through if needed, don't require testing until December 06. I had to adjust a couple of the hangers, I cut the ones off the old system and welded one on as required.
I used my oil change ramps one under right front tire and one under right rear tire. I have heard you can do it one the ground but I can't skinny under my frame.... I had to cut out a piece as mine is a SB Extended cab. The kit exhaust kit had enough pipe for a Longbox Crew.
Very worthwhile project.

I just got a tip from a friend of mine that is a autoplan agent. He said if I insure the truck for a GVWR of 5001 kg, I don't need to go through aircare. The insurance cost a bit more but is totally legal. ICBC does not check to see if your GVWR is indead higher.

Got my exhaust done today. Sounds great, but their is a low RPM drone. I guess I can get use to it. As for power.. I'm not sure.. Seat of the pants is hard to tell, but the exhaust note sure makes it's sound like I'm going faster.

Dan,

From your downpipe back is your exhaust straight or does it bend to go over the torsion bar cross member?

It has a bend in it very smooth and transitions to 4". Tight fit on a 1500.

Are you 3" from the downpipe to past the torsion bar cross member?

3" downpipe, 3-1/2" at end of downpipe for about 30" then 4" rest of way including muffler.

So the bend over the is in that 30" of 3.5" correct?

You wouldn't have a pic of that would you?

Yes it has a bend in the 3.5 See attached picture.

Dan,

THe reason for trhe questions ia I got a used banks system and I want to install it in my 97 K3500 CC.

I'm trying to get everything on hand, so that install day is not spent getting other parts.

I currently have a Jardine 3" down pipe with a flange that bolts to the cat. I'm trying to decide if I should gut the feline and run 3" inside it or bolt 3" straight to to the flange. Either way I go I'm going 3.5" after the torison bar cross member.

If you pipe through the cat it will have more even flow than running through a gutted one.

If the cat stays it will have pipe thru it, it was never a choice to just gut it.

What I don't get is if you gut out the cat, won't the truck still fail the emmision test? The probe they use in the tailpipe will catch it.. won't it?

A working soot trap reduces particulates by >5%. Running B20 (20% biodiesel) will reduce it more than that.

They make biodiesel here in Reno, you can't BUY it here yet http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/Throwup.gif

Dave,

The only test I'm a where of for diesel is the opacity test and I don't think that use a probe for that one.

The test for a diesel cat is a visual on ie look to if the cat is there.

My truck passed Denver's dyno test without the cat. $20.00 helped the inspector "see" the cat.
