Ok..... what will I need to put a 700R4 in a truck that didnt have it? J motor, as well. I will be most likely pulling the tranny from an 82 blazer that had a 6.2 in it. I just need to know what I should look for, as I know it didnt have a computer. What did control the tranny lockup? Also I have heard of people using a toggle switch to help them on the TC lockup. Anyone have any diagrams of how they wire it?

You will need tranny, torque converter, flexplate, wiring that goes to 4 prong plug in tranny, switch off of injection pump, tv cable, tv bracket, tv linkage to injection pump. If the engine you are looking at is still complete, it should have every thing needed. 700r4 was used in J motors up to about 85.

I don't understand why you would want to put the 700R4 in your vehicle. If you must have an auto, I would install a 400 unit as it is a heavier duty transmission. I installed a 6.2L in my 1970 C20 with a 350 Auto and it didn't last long. I replaced it with the 4 speed manual (granny gear version).

I understand the durability issue between a 700r4 and a 400. It has the 400 in it now, and I would love to keep it. But with the current 3:08 gears, it is sluggish and doggy. I intend to switch to 4.10 gears, and toss in overdrive. Its only a blazer, and it wont really be used for towing (have my Deuce for that) so I think the 700r4 should be just fine for longevity.
