the famed 10149599 block which was also used in early 6.5s. Rumored to be the best blocks except for the red 82's. Odem, Tx is a few hours away or i would take a drive to see it. pretty impressive.

I saw that article too!! Man it sure makes my 192,000 seem like a tiny amount.

x3 good block, but not enough balls to kill it self IMO.

My last famed 599 block went to the scrap yard with cracks in the main webs at around 200k. Never any tell tale signs, just found the cracks while inspecting the bottom end. Who knows how many more are cracked and running fine. My dad still has my original 83 gmc 2500 pu with over 300k on the clock it just keeps going and going......

I have 305 000 kms (189500 miles) on my 83. I sure hope it make it to 600 000 miles! I have heard of 6.2s around here with 600 000kms on them, but never that many miles! That is amazing. Someone really looked after that engine.

the 91 has a lil over 280k on it and still runslike new. i think that if you run them and service them like they are desinged for they will last.

....if you run them and service them like they are designed for....
that is key. most run them like they are an industrial engine and expect them to last forever.

Hey, hey, you do remember this is a 6.2 forum don't you? Sure the 6.2 isn't as nice as the almighty D-max, but I'd take it's power over a 350 any day.

its all how you take care of it...and if its never been over heated... set timing, fuel pump, change oil, and it will last for ever... ive seen abused 6.2s that are still running good... all my friends know when they talk me into selling one of mine it will last em for a long time.

My 91 6.2 had 310,000 miles on it when the trans. went out. The body and frame were too rusty to justify another trans. It still ran great. Engine will be going in another body with a 4l80e transmission. The 4l60 [700r4] has left a bad taste in my mouth. Miles aren't as important as the care taken of them.

my burb has over 600K on it. however it has a newer 599 block in it, so i don't know actual mileage on the engine, and i also don't know actual mileage on the vehicle as i bought it with 323K on the the clock, i've put 25K on it, and paperwork shows 645K in 2006...so actual is unknown
