: Routine Maintenance Question

I have a 2004.5 LLY Silverado 2WD Crew Cab Allison, no towing, no mods, very limited cold weather use.

I just turned 110,000 miles.

This truck has been amazing, the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned, knock on wood. The only non-routine things I have ever done are a fuel pressure regulator (warranty, 55K miles) and the intermediate steering shaft.

I do my own routine maintenance. Grease, oil, oil filter, fuel filter, tranny fluid, tranny filter, fuel filter - all done pretty much by the book, as far as service intervals.

No oil or fuel additives used.

Most of the miles on this truck are over-the-road, not in-town driving.

My question: What are the most likely things that would cause this truck to stop me dead when I am in the middle of nowhere? I am not much for replacing parts that aren't broken, but if there is some particular thing that would cause me to be stranded I would like to at least carry a spare.

Thanks in advance,
BillK

have you change you coolant and check the serp belt?
around 100,000 miles you should think about changing before any long drive

Yes serp belt and also water pump I hear are notorious for going out after 100k miles as well as the original batteries if they are orig.

Serpentine belt and coolant, OK.

Batteries already failed this past summer.

Water pump is something I would not have guessed.

I got mine changed under warranty right before the warranty ran out. He said you would not beleive how many trucks come in at 101k with water pumps out. He said its like thay have a timer on them.

my dad has 193,000 on his '04 LB7 and the batteries are original as well as the brakes. His water pump went at 140,000.

O.K.

I'll try to find a procedure for changing the water pump.

My batteries are still original but I know one of them is getting weak. If I can just hang on until April 15th we'll get new ones.

From someone who has locked his keys in the truck.................

Spare Key
(if you don't have onstar)

serpentine belt pulleys, two idlers and the tensioner, are commom failures - replace with ACDelco OEM part ... You loose power steering and hydroboost when one lets go - I carry a spare pulley (also need a 1/2 inch breaker bar to relieve the tensioner for changing belt and pulleys)

take a good look at your power steering hoses and would also install a pump rub kit in the transfercase.

Been there and done that, so I already have hideakeys on all my vehicles.
