I am looking for a good decent priced electric brake controller. I want one that is easy to get set up etc. I also want one that is easy to put in a take out when not in use. What are all of you running in your trucks? What do you all recommend? Are there any positive or negatives?

I am using a Prodigy. It seems to be the most popular one. Surf the internet, should find one for about $100, list is about $149. It is the best one of 3 that I have used.

Yep, What chipper said. I really like my Prodigy. Easy to move between trucks and it really works well.

Amen to chipper and bmd.
The unit has a "decelerometer" built into it. The decelerometer senses how much change in motion your vehicle is experiencing and outputs the appropriate voltage.
Have had two occasions in the last year wher I needed all the voltage I could get to the 13K 5th wheel to stop it. The Prodigy did it's job well.

After doing the research I decided on the Prodigy as well.

I went with the Jordan 2020 Ultima. When you put your foot on the brake it puts brake on the trailer. It’s a No Brainer controller.
RV Wholesalers sells it for $98.00.
You can’t take it out of the truck you just unhook the cable from the brake pedal.

Ok I went with a prodigy. One more question is says that you should have a circuit breaker/relay installed with the system. I am assuming that the 40 Amp Mega fuse that you install under the hood takes the place of this am I correct? Otherwise do I have to cut the wire harness to install one of those circuit breaker/relays?

If you already have the towing option installed on the truck, the trcuk is ready to go. You can make the install even easier by getting a GM plug and play harness for the prodigy from Tenkonsha.
There has been difference of opinion on the 40 amp fuse for the UHFP but the general feeling is that it is for the trailer's charging circuit.

Ok thanks that is what I thought. I have the tow package and I ordered the GM harness to go with the prodigy. So I am ready to go now. Thanks for the help everyone.

Girlfriend got me the Prodigy and harness for Christmas last year. I did a simple plug and play, and litterally 15 minutes later I was on the road with my trailer. BTW, the 15min was about 10 minutes of mounting to get it sitting level in the truck. I love it!!

Buying controller within next few days. Will be stopping heavy 5'er.
Have seen some mentions of BrakeSmart controller for excellent performance. It is $350 with harnesses on their website. Unable to understand their explanation on why it is so much better (it senses by tapping into the truck brake system) but if I knew I wouldn't be asking. Is it better than the Prodigy?

I am by no means an expert but I think ( through reading the posts hear) that a prodigy is a great controler. If you are doing a lot of towing the guys that use the brake smart luv em. I have the prodogy and dont tow a lot but it suits my needs just fine. I towed my Z71 on a 10ton(rated) goosneck through the hills of West Virginia the otherday and braking was not an issue.
