im fairly new to diesel espesially the duramax.
im more of a ford guy but found a duramax at the price i want so i came here to see what i can get fior my money.
first off, im only 15 so im really tight on money.
i want the most i can get for it,

Ah i remember when i was in this situation. a truck with that kinda miles + programmer = burnt clutches and truck that sucks to drive. im not sure what the current prices are on the transgo kits, but IMO do something with the tranny along with a programmer. my .02

That is a really good price but it seems kinda low. I would get the VIN off of it and do a VIN check here and see what i has had done to it. 01's Are known for bad headgaskets and injector problems , so check it out before you buy it and put a whole lot of money in it. If it smokes white at an idle and the idle is rough injector problem, also check the level of the oil to see if there is any sign of diesel fuel in it , also injectors. For a tuner or programmer I would get a Banks six-gun or a hypertech. Probably can find one used for couple hundred. I bought my 6-gun for 200 when i bought my truck. Added enough power then til I found out the potential of these trucks. The market place on this site usually has some tuners/programmers for sale or check craigslist. I would tell you to get PPE programmer but then you would definetly need a tranny.

That price does seem low. I would be careful buying that truck. As for tuning, i had a bully dog power pup when i first got my truck and it worked well and it was fun but if your looking for the most bang for your buck save up a little more money and buy efi live. Its worth every penny and you'll never look at programmers for the duramax again. Just don't put to much power to the trans until you can afford to get it built.

well, i probaly wont have the $$$ for a built tranny.
my plan is if the truck checks out, is to buy it, chip it, drive for a bit, then sell it in the near future, and get something esle.

The bully dog power pup only adds 90hp and the triple dog adds 150hp with the crazy larry. Thats not quite enough to kill the trans, unless u beat on it non stop. I put on 18,000 with the power pup on the highest (90hp) setting and never had a problem. Now the almost 500rwhp tune with efi live killed my trans in a real quick hurry. I got dumb and limped it a few times and then de-tuned it but the damage was already done and it went out pulling a trailer with a chevy blazer on it. Its getting a SCIV put in this april.
