:o: hello all
my 02 d-max sometimes doesnt fire . Only happened 4 times in last half year
I pumped fuel primer and wait few minutes and it will fire
could this be fuel drainback? Do these trucks have lift pumps?

Any help would be great Thanks

The "lift pump" is really part of the main high pressure pump.
The fuel system from the pump back to the tank is a suction
system. Check for a loose fuel filter, or any other spot
that air can get into the system. This can be tough, because
you may not see a fuel leak, but air can get in under the negative
pressure when the engine is running. Also, check your fuel fill
cap, to make sure the vent is working. Dirt can clog the vent.
It may be a good time to change the fuel filter, and make sure the
top O ring and the WIF senor O rings are replaced. A good excuse to
change to the new 2 stage filter!

You problem sounds familiar:

I have an 03 with the same issues - engine just cranks but no ignition. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley19.gif Only occurs when engine is warm. Within a few minutes after cranking the engine would start. Once she starts....runs perfect. All occurances were between 10 and 45 minutes of shutting her down the previous time. I have had the Juice 4.73 for the last 18,000 miles with no probs. I took the juice off last week and had dealership read diagnositcs.....They claimed the injectors were fine but how can I be sure they even checked? Anyone else know of this problem? Thanks.

I have the same truck.

Starting at about 60k miles, my truck wouldnt fire after shutting it off. I would let it sit for about an hour and it would finally start. Sometimes I would run the batts down cranking and get a jump. When jumped it would fire right up.
This happened about once every two months for over a year.

I brought it to the dealer and they claimed it was a security device in the steering column that shut the ignition off. They replaced the part and I had the same problem on Christmas eve while visiting family about 50miles from my house and at 10pm. (really pissed me off)
I towed it to the local dealer and they replaced one battery and said I had one faulty glow plug. The only problem is, my check engine light had been on for a couple of days before.
Im not sure if this fixed the problem or not but, Its been over three months and it hasnt happened yet...

Not sure if it was the battery or the glow plug but, Im guessing its the battery because every time I jumped the truck it would start right up..
good luck...
