My temp gauge starts at 70d then there are 3 short lines a long line three short lines and then 100d. It continues but I am not too concerned over 100d. Am I correct in calculating 3.7 d between the lines? Truck running between 77.4d & 81.1 d? That would make it between 171.32 & 177.98 d F. Am I running a little cool? It keeps that temp year round.

I wouldn't rely too much on the dash gauge for minute accuracy, more for noting any change, I.e.: if one day it shows temps way higher or lower, then figure out why.
My gauge reads the same (similar) as yours, but the scanner shows 194F at normal operating temp.
You could also check with an infrared thermometer below the t-stat housing.

Could you fellow Canucks direct me to a place to buy a good but reasonably priced Infra red thermometor?

Eecole electric here in NB sells them. $139.44. There are outlets in Ontario as well. You may need a contractor friend to get one as they are wholesalers only, though fore something like this they may let you have it any. Just tell them you are a mechanic.
