We just got rid our our last snow fall and I washed the truck yesterday. I noticed the wheels did not come clean and discovered there were deposits of sand and dirt under the clear-coat on the wheels. I rubbed a little harder and this plastic coating started to flake off in big chunks. Now my wheels look like crap! Truck only has 11,000 miles on it. Anyone else have this problem with the stock wheels?

I've seen a few posts about this - didn't really read them though. I'd do a search and take so ammo with you to see the dealer and see what they can do.
I may be wrong, so don't quote me, but IIRC some were given new wheels. Not real sure though. It's what I'd be after. I can also see where they may claim you did something, so good luck.

Hey there, I have an 04 with 87k on it. When I bought the truck out of Missouri the clear coat was missing in many places on the wheels.
I got some aircraft stripper from local auto parts, fine grit sand paper, mother's powerball and aluminum polish and went to town on them. They turned out pretty good and have a nice factory shine on them again.
I'm sure this is something you don't want to do with a truck that has 11,000 miles on it. Good luck at the factory.

There are a fews threads out there regarding this problem. I had mine refinished under GM warranty last year. No problems or hastles at the dealership they said yup shouldn't do that we'll take care of it.
Took the truck into the dealer. The two rear wheels were pretty bad but the front seemed OK. He ordered me 4 new wheels as warranty replacements. :)

I had mine replaced under warranty at 6K miles because the clear was lifting.... No hassle whatsoever.
