Hi, I'm the sometimes proud sometimes not so proud owner of an 04.5 D/A CC 4x4. My question is, should I use the tow/haul mode when I'm towing my 1800lb bay boat to the coast? It is about a 3 hour trip and I run it with the bullydog power pup set at level 2. The truck doesn't need any help and I seem to get better mileage without the tow/haul on. I usually will click the button and turn it on just before I let off the gas to stop so that I save the brakes. Is this good or bad? Don't be to hard on me, I'm a financial planner by trade, but I love to fish and hunt. Hence the big billy bear bad*** truck. Thanks in advance for any replies!

I don't use tow/haul towing my 6000 lb trailer through the mountains you shouldn't even know your boat is behind you. Only time I've use tow haul is on steep downhills for breaking.

:shake: No No and No! You could pull that boat with a Yogo! Just throw it in the bed! I would not consider using tow/haul unless I was towing over 10,000 Lbs. Absolutely unnecessary! :shake:

I hope some of these guys are being sarcastic... Yes, there isn't a need to use it towing a boat that light, but using tow haul won't hurt anything.. on the highway, there shouldn't be any difference in mileage. I sometimes use tow haul empty because the truck HAULS *** in T/H (less power being lost in the TC becasue it is locked in 2-5). Even towing as little as 6000# in T/H is a good idea to keep heat down.

I don't like the late shifts in t/h. In city driving I would imagine the mileage has to be worse because you never get into 4th gear let alone 5th. The quicker you get into 5th the better the mileage. Ally will run cooler in t/h, thats a given, but unless you have a load on the back or racing, you don't need it.

Personally, I don't mind the late shifts... When cruising in T/H at 35-40, I think it sits in 3rd, and when you give it a a little extra throttle, the truck ROCKETS compared to when not in T/H, probably because a) the TC is locked, and b) the turbo is probably giving more boost at that point than if it was in 4th or 5th and doesn't have to spool up as much (no boost gauge yet, so I'm not positive on that one, but it sounds like it).

Why does the Ally run cooler in T/H?

The Torque converter is locked in 2nd through 5th, so it doesn't generate (as much) heat.

Convertor stays locked up...major source of heat and energy loss.
