any idea how old the injectors are? The injectors are 100K mile items. They physically wear out internally and leak fuel down into the cylinders after the engine is shut off. If your trucks done any heavy towing then the injectors should be done every 80K miles as your working them harder.

If you don't know the age of the injectors, and your trucks got over 100K miles on it i'd replace the injectors fairly soon. My truck never towed anything before i owned it. so i got some more life out of the injectors, but at the first sign of them getting worn(white smoke on startup with 8 working glows/rough start) i parked the truck until i could change them.

Bad injectors can and will take the engine with them. Its cheaper to change injectors than buy an entire engine.

I'd start by checking the glow plugs.even a couple of bad plugs will cause poor starting. simple to do. UNPLUG WIRE TO GLOW PLUG. do an ohm reading on each plug. (approx 1 ohm) Someone correct me if I'm wrong, it's been a while since I've checked mine. or more basic, hook a test light to pos and touch tester to plug. if light goes on, plug might be good. If no light, plug is bad. To test glow controller and related system, cold engine, hook up test light to a plug wire. Watch light when ign turned on. light should glow for 10 to 30 seconds.

i chekd my glow plugs by taking them out pluging them into the correct wire making sure they were grounded and turning the keythen i touched them (with gloveson)

Limited edition crispy gloves? Just be careful not to get burned Dat1truk.

The only sure fire way to test the glow plugs is to remove them and put power to them. They should glow tip to center in ~5 seconds. If the center only glows the plug is bad. If the tip only glow the plug is also bad.

When i put my new glows in i used 2000*F copper anti-seize so if i ever have to take them out its not a huge issue. Make sure to use an anti-seize that conducts electricity(copper, etc).
