My friend who has an 02 24v with just over 100,000 just called and was telling me about his turbo whistling ALOT louder than it should or usually does. He has silencer ring mia and K&N air filter. It usually only reads 20lbs boost max and he said it was reading over 26lbs now. Nothing done to the truck powerwise except 5" straight pipe. He made sure everything was tight on the turbo. Is the turbo shot you think?

just a thought, but is waste gate acuator moving, might be stuck or in bind.

Were going to check it tomorrow morning and see if it's the wastgate. Should we take it off the turbo or eyeball it with it on? How do you get it unstuck? Spray some WD40 on it and loosen it up.

should be able to do on engine, disconnect linkage if you can, or work against control spring. use wd40 to free and light dab of antisieze (high temp-copper) will burn off after, check control head and lines for leakage.

Pull the intake hose on the front of the turbo and check for oil in compressor

housing. Also check to make sure that the compressor wheel doesn't have any

play or slack in it. If all this checks out, more than likely the turbo is not shot.

The truck would be running like crap (lots of black smoke) due to underboost.

Maybe his PCM is screwing up and running a little higher boost......???

Got underneath truck yesterday and sprayed the crap out of the linkage for the wastegate and wiggled. Took it down the road and punched it and it saw 23 then 21 then back down to where it usually is at 20lbs. So it's got to be good now.
