Today I was pulling my camper out of the yard when the rear end starting to feel like it was slipping and jerking. It would spin then grap. After I unhooked I went to pull back into the drive way and the rear felt like it had a flat and had a jerking feeling.Pulled forward and back and heard nothing but when I turned the wheel and moved it came back. After turning and looking it went away. What could it been and when will it return????Felt like a problem in the rear diff.

If you have the G80 rear, it could be normal.

Tranny, u joints, leaf spring, rear end diff, swing bearing, a number of things come to mind. Fluid levels, temps, etc. Mine has done this when its cold and wet.....loose traction, hopping, over temp.

Is it still doing it?

x2, or did you spin at all before you sooked to the trailer because it sounds like the locker in the rear locked and you had posi in the rear... mine does it from time to time when im im a ditch and try to pull out and spin.. it never does it when i want it to though??? like when im accitually stuck or doing a burn out and only one spins and i look stupid.

Yea when I pulled onto the road and got straight I nailed it and it would spin about 1 foot grab and then spin again .Did this for about 6 feet. Both tires left black marks. It did feel like it was in four wheel but that was the first thing I looked, the 2 hi light was on.Runs fine and quite now so hope it was just the rear locked in???

Id put money down that the g80 was just locked up and that is what you felt. When it is locked and your on dry pavement trying to make even a semi tight turn you feel the rear end buck and pop when it goes into a bind. I cant remember exactly what it is but when it does lock up it takes so long for it to disengage whether it is so many revolutions or so many feet.

Yeah i think once power is let off it disengages or once it hits like 25mph.

I cant remember if the g80 in these trucks is the same basic setup as the one in my zr2 blazer(8.6" rear end) but i know on mine you can modify it to make it stay locked up to a higher speed and change the engagement speed.

I was doing a burnout in my 1998 k2500 once and broke the carrier housing. This wasn't obious at first. It was spinning one wheel and then made a loud groan and both wheels started to spin. It was several days later before I realized something had broken. I lived on a long gravel driveway and was slowly easing down it to minimized dust. I noticed the rear of the truck was bouncing up and down when i drove slowly. The more I paid attention, I realized the rear end was binding and releasing almost like something was bent.

I tore down the rear end and when I pulled the carrier housing, it fell apart. The drivers side end had broken off just past where the clutch packs are located. Its such a tight fit in the axle housing that everything stayed in place, but it has rotated slightly. Since the break was jagged, and it was now rotated, the carrier housing was binding as it rotated. The ring gear was probably not running true either.

Since I had to replace it, I bought an open carrier and installed a Detroit Locker.

Best thing that ever happened to that truck except for the SAS.

if its cold and i punch it from a dead stop it one leggs it will do it until the rear is warm then both engage in a burnout or if there in mud or some crap.....when i have it in 4wd and turn it goes erch erch erch and wont really turn all that well....a fluid change went a long way for me as i had the same symptoms
