Does anyone have some experience with the Posi Lock system to replace the electric actuator on the front diff? My truck keeps blowing the 4X4 fuse. The actuator couldn't have gone at a more perfect time- just got done plowing and heading up my steep driveway and no 4 wheel! couldn't make it home. Now I here there is the old style and new style electric actuator. Do the GM dealers have both or just the new style? The Posi Lock is around $200, is it worth it or do I just replace stock one and hope for the best??
Thanks
Brian

Which truck?
And, in my entire fleet, I have never replaced an actuator on the front axle. Earlier trucks (my '98 for sure), would have issues with the harness rubbing to ground. So the stock actuator should be sufficient. But you need to test the resistance across the unit before condemning it.

This is on our '93 2500 and our '92 Full size Blazer is acting up as well. Where was the harness rubbing? I'll check that out.

Following the harness from the front axle, the harness runs back to and up the pass side of the bellhousing, in very close proximity to the exhaust manifold to Y-pipe connection. IIRC, GM had a bulletin and revised harness available. The replacement harness, IIRC, moved the harness away from the bell housing by routing either across to the driver's side, or up the front of the pass side of the engine harness.

GM's cure for slow or no engagement, but not Fuse failure http://www.justanswer.com/questions/zvcu-1996-k1500-5-7l-question-4-wheel
Being as your working on an 88-97 truck, the actuator is thermal and can/ will blow the fuse upon failure. The above link has the motor actuator (versus the slow thermal type) list as the replacement upgrade.
