I'm looking to buy an exhaust for my 05 dmax, but I've had a problem with the drone on my gas trucks.

I would say a 4" MBRP turbo back system.

We sell the Silverline and they sound good and have no drone when you use the muffler. MBRP will be the same. Keeping the cat will reduce the chance of drone pretty much with any system.

I don't mind the drone. It's my dad he complains about alittle turbo whistle when he borrowed it for the winter. He likes his log truck loud. I just don't get it. I was thinking a 5 inch.

mbrp does have a drone at 1500-2100 rpm. Don't know about pulling. Haven't done that yet. Quietest ones out there are Corsa and Magnaflow(those I have heard in person).those are pricey Magnaflow doesn't make one for e/c s/b. mbrp is half the money twice the noise. It sounds good outside the cab. There are sound bites on the internet of both in side the cab and outside the cab of most of the popular ones.

mine has drone but only going up a hill, but I like it. it sounds awesome. but pulling my gooseneck one time I looked in the back seat at my brother and he was wearing ear plugs so in the back seat it must be bad.

You could try a hushpower muffler with the system you go with. It doesn't have a drone to it, and it sounds awesome when you rip into it. Also the cab noise is cut done quite a bit.

I suggest going with a Diamond Eye 4" kit that has a quiet tone front pipe. These kits are great for people looking for a less aggressive sounding exhaust with no drone. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

What is different between the quiet tone front pipe and the standard front pipe from Diamond Eye? Does the quiet tone front pipe include a reasonator or something?

Tyler@MPF

Yes it has a small resonator just after it connects to the down-pipe.

The Quiet Tone front-pipe has a built in resonator, the regular front-pipe does not.

Are there any performance differences? Also, I didn't see them on your site.

No drone... Stock. With any exhaust system i have ever heard on the d-max it will always have a little drone between 1500-2000. but some are worse then others. I have silverline duals on my truck, and chose them because they are pretty quiet until you let it rip. when i pull my 12k load it will have a light drone going up a small incline if in the rpm range mentioned. but nothing horrible. my drone meter is my wife, and it has yet to go off. so it cant be bad. As long as you keep the muffler on pretty much all the systems you will be fine for the most part. silverline in my opinion

bobd- There is no performance difference that we could tell. Both drop EGTs the same. we do not have them listed on our current site, but they will be on our new site that should launch any day. If you would like to order, just give me a holler.

Don't know if it's the best system but the Corsa has no drone at all. Sounds completely stock in the cab.

I have a 5" mbrp turbo back and yet to install it on an lmm. I really dont want any drone and curious what I can do or add when I go to install it to keep it down. Also which way does the muffler go in? Louvers toward the motor or tailpipe?

I have a 4" stainless turbo back system from PYPES, no drone and very quiet inside the truck. I love it!

I have a Borla cat-back system. It was only slightly louder than stock with the CAT on. Kitty went missing  and a Silverline SS front pipe was installed. Exhaust has a much more aggressive tone. No drone noted as of yet, but a slight rumble at 1700-1800 RPM. At 70-72 MPH, 2100-2200 RPM, it is fairly quiet. I like it.:)

The louvers face the rear of the truck. The exhaust should go over them, not into them.

If you have drone. I suggest putting an MBRP resonator on the front pipe. This has worked for a lot of people. It is essentially a shortened muffler.

Is there a resonator for the 5" pipe? I have the MBRP 5" system. I looked on several websites and find it only avail for 4".... or does it install where the front pipe is still 4"?

Install a Hushpower system, 10 times better quality than the MBRP, the MBRP is just a big glasspack with no engineering in the product

Yes, I just switched out a MBRP muffler for a Hushpower. It is definitely quieter but still has a nice tone. More smoothed out and refined than the MBRP imo. You really hear the turbo with it :D

My wife used to wear ear plugs until I switched out the Magnaflow muffler to a Hushpower.
The Hushpower being a bigger, heavier muffler helped a lot with eliminating the drone also.
A friend of mine has the same exhaust (Magnaflow 4" turbo back) but he has the Magnaflow muffler and his brothers were saying how much more louder his truck is compared to mine sitting in the back seat.

I have the Quiet tone down pipe on my lb7. I straight piped it because the drone was so bad with the muffler. It freaking rocks. All the noise is in the rear. Its as close to stock as I have found.
