Yes, I know this thread isn't about a diesel powered monster... but about my wife's 03 Chevy Trailblazer. This forums members have been so helpful in answering my diesel questions I was hoping someone might be able to help me with this problem.

Here go's... a couple weeks ago my wife gets in her car, turns the key and nothing happens. Everything else works... windows, radio, windows....ect. it just won't start. There's no clicking noise from the starter and I replaced the battery last summer. If I turn the steering wheel, lock and unlock the doors several times and just keep trying to start it it eventually starts after about 5 minute of messing with stuff... Don't know if messing with all this stuff helps or not....

Here's the good part, it doesn't do it everyday, and once it is started I can shut it off and it will start right back up. I can drive it to the local bar, leave it sit for a couple hours and it will start right up. This problem only occurs when it sits over night when tring to leave in the morning or after it has sat all day when at work....:wtf:

I have read a lot of other formus with people having the same problem and I have not found a solution to this. People have had their TB taken to the dealship several times, had many different parts changed and the problem still exists. I have read that people have had the folowing parts replaced; ingition switch, PCM, altanator, starter, Theftlock module... ect.

The biggest complaint I have read is that since the problem is so interminent that when the car is at the dealer the problem doesn't happen and therefore they say the can't fix it since they can't reproduce the problem. Be nice if it at least gave a CEL so it could be diagnosed!

Anyway any help would be greatly appricated. If this is the wrong place for this thread or know of any sites that would be helpful please let me know.

My wife's 03 Trailblazer did the same thing, I hit the starter with a BFH and it started right up. Changed the starter after that and all has been well since.

Next time it won't start just try tapping the starter with a hammer while your wife turns the key, if it starts you found the problem.

If not maybe check all the battery cables for corosion. She also had a bad AC Delco battery when it was newer, leaked acid and made a mess.

Good Luck

Do you have to remove the skid plate to get to the starter?

I will get to have fun tomorrow after work.... wouldn't start after work for the wife. So she get a ride home and I didn't feel like D!@KING around with tonight so tomorrow after work I get to get it when it's supposed to snow 4" tomorrow....... yeeHa!

Going to trailer it home and work on it in the heated garage... :D

No skid plate removal.

You can reach the starter from under the hood, just use a small hammer and you can just reach down and rap it a few times, helps if someone keeps trying clicking the key while your tapping.

Try hitting it before you trailer it

Good Luck

Hey DD...... Well I got it home by trailer...... had I known where the starter was and how easy it was to get to I would have tried your smaking the starter trick. Oh well, Sat morning I tried to start it and guess what..... it fired the second time I tried the key. I shut it off and tried again and nothing.... so I had the wife turn the key and hold it. It started right after I hit it with the hammer. I was able to repeat this three times in a row so I am curtain that it's the starter. I'll find out monday night after I get a new one and install it.

I'll let ya know......... Thanks for the help DD!
