Relatively stock '84 M1009, converted to 12 volts + new 33x15.50 on 10 or 11 inch steel wheels.

That sounds rough!
Never tried to start mine below about +20F and it didnt sound like that.

I started my turbocharged 6.2L at -24F the other day without a block heater, I didn't think she'd go, but needed to get at the skid steer parked behind it. Gave it 20s of glow, hit the key and she started firing on cylinders right away. Cranked for about 10s before she was firing on enough cylinders to run on it's own, took about a minute of running like that before the rest of the cylinders started firing too. Clattered like an old freight train, lol
