I just talked with a representative from a Chev. dealer at Sacramento RV show:cool2: and he told me that the LLY engine in Calif. is having problems with the injector O-rings as they are failing. He blames it on Calif diesel fuel, haven't heard this problem yet hear on the forum. Has anyone in Ca. had this problem. He told me there might be a recall coming as soon as GM figures out a fix.

Took 2 injectors at 20,000 miles in a 04.5 LLY.

just had two injectors replaced at 6900 miles on my 04.5, trust me it aint the fuel in California doin it. Do a search on injectors on this site and you'll be reading for quite some time.

7000 miles #2 injector replaced. Funny thing - now instead of being above 4.0, #2 is now below -4.0 almost -5.0 and number #8 is in the +5.0 range. -:t Needless to say I am on a first name basis with my local service dept.

I suspect with the injector restriction and GM griping about dealers replacing injectors that test out OK, they (GM) are probably sending these "OK" injectors back into the field. I would be curious as to how they are testing. They might test ok individually, but don't seem to play well in groups of eight. :(

I just resealed a Mercedes diesel fuel system, (new style) every seal turned to mush, like puddy. The customer blames the Oregon fuel! All the pump delivery valve seals and suction line "O" rings were damaged. I have never seen anything like it.
My 2 cents....Den.

I just figured out how to read the balance rates with my predator.

Now it seems kind of strange that my #2 and #8 were the ones that stood out to be higher than the rest. I dont think they were out of spec but they were the same ones KBK had out of wac.

Has anybody else noticed that these two are different??

My truck puked the #3 injector in about 12,000 miles running "Montana" fuel. It's not a fuel-related problem in my opinion. It's a matter of some ****ty engineering from the fine folks over at Bosch and/or poor quality control. GM should either get Bosch to fix the problem once and for all or go to a new supplier.

Check the fuel for acetone.

Yeah I agree this is not a fuel related issue. Injectors have been failing for quite some time in both lb7 and lly, and all over the country.

I work at CAT and we are testing common rail setups and we fail injectors at a rate of about 6 engines a week, but we are still ironing the bugs and have not released the product for sale, like gm has.

If it's not fuel related (I'm saying US fuel in general, not state specific), why do people running extra filtration such as the Mega filters, Racor , or CAT don't seem to have any injector problems, or at least the problems are drasticly decreased.

Does CAT use Bosch, or in house injection components?

Do a search on balance rates. IIRC, they should be +/- 4.0 in park and +/- 6.0 in drive with foot on the brake.

How do you know if you have a problem with the injectors?

you will know, truck knocks, misses, stumbles, and your fuel mileage blows, oh and you can get some smoke.
