: Canadian NS switch
Prospector 03-31-2005, 07:24 PM Hi all, thanks for the great forum.
I have 2001 duromax/ ally with only 52,000 kms. I have self diagnosed the truck ( with your help) as a faulty park switch.
I took it to the dealer ... and they confirmed this. They want 360.00 to fix it.
I copied some of the warrenty info from this site , and they just laughed at me and said that was U.S. info .
Any help here gang?

Horse Trainer 03-31-2005, 07:29 PM Find an Allison Dealer - much cheaper - $60 US (more or less). My dealer quoted $175. US for switch alone - thanks to this site, got it under Emissions warranty. Sounds like Canada may not have the same time requirements for emission comliance.

Totally Wrong Dude.
It is an Emissions piece warranty as per your owners manual it applies to Canada as well.
If you want, I can dig up my Warrant invoice on this.... but yes your dealer HAS to do it in fact at 52000K's it is a non deductible replacement item!
over your basic warranty it costs you the 100.00 ded unless you have the extended warranty
Your dealer is FOS.
No offence Eh?
:)

Heck it right in the OWNERS MANUAL!
Look under warranty.... both US and CANADA it is listed!
Page 18 in the warranty and assistance manual under Powertrain Control System
Item #26 Transmission Gear Selector Switch (DIESEL)
That is the one.... pull out the booklet take it to the dealer, smile sweetly and say stick it up your @....... no, scratch that
Take book to dealer, show them hand over keys and tell them you will be back in an hour to pick up the truck. If there is a problem call GM assistance on the cell phone, tell them the nature of the problem and then give your phone to the service manager so he can hear it from GM!
duramaxdiesel 04-01-2005, 10:39 AM Yes it's warrantied. They hate it when you prove them wrong.
Prospector 04-01-2005, 10:53 AM cAN ANYONE PROVIDE A WARRENTY CODE, OR ANY OTHER INFO? THIS TRUCK IS A 2001, SO ITS NOT COVERED UNDER THE 3 YEARS DEAL ANYMORE. GM CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE SAYS THEY CAN'T KIND ANYTHING EXCEPT 5 YEARS FOR ENGINE COMPONENTS.

Prospector 04-01-2005, 05:10 PM Me: ( to the gm assistance folks) : 2 guys on the internet said it was covered.
them: really......
Me: ya, I even have a copy of an email that shows a scan of a page in the manual
them: really .... what year was book?
me: uhhhh.
Them: got page 27 of that book? It says it aint covered. So long sucka. So ... Can any one actually provide evidance that GM has covered this on a 5 year old truck? ... In Canada? This is a loosing battle! - Jay
duramaxdiesel 04-02-2005, 10:31 AM Let me see if I can dig it up somewhere.
Dieselholic 04-05-2005, 10:39 PM Prospector,
Stuff like this aggrevates me unbelievably, in Canada & the US the NSBU switch is a policy "E" covered component, this means under Canadian Federal Emissions Warranty that the NSBU is covered for 5 years/80,000 kms on a LHD Diesel vehicle (GVW<14,000#) (our trucks), or 5 years/50,000 miles in the US, both countries with $0 deductable. Now if it is a HD Diesel vehicle (GVW>14,000#) it's covered for 5 years/160,000 kms in Canada & 5 years/100,000 miles in the US (or 3000 hours for California vehicles only).
This info was taken right from GM's Labour time guide, today.
Hope this helps, Todd.

shuffman 04-07-2005, 11:08 AM Last summer I had the same trouble as you, Prospector. below is a link to my invoice with all the codes and it was covered under my 3yr or 60,000 klm warranty not emmissions or engine warranty. I now have the extended warranty. Hope this helps you out. You may want to print this out and show it to your dealer........SWH...

SARGUY 04-07-2005, 11:15 AM I had mine replaced in Jan.found out later on this and the RV.NET forum that this is covered under the emissions warranty, returned to dealer with the relevant info in the warranty book and my invoice.Got 360.00 bucks back outta their sweaty palms, felt great! My truck is a 2002 and had 86000 KMs when the repair was made.Tell them you want to talk to the regional GM rep,and show the rep these replies and the warranty book, let us know how you make out.
blnagel 04-07-2005, 11:48 AM I bought my NBSU switch from the local allison dealer and was $54 US. I changed it and was very simple. I followed these instructions and was very easy.
