: Drivers side power window
SARGUY 03-31-2005, 04:52 PM The power window on the drivers side will not go up or down, the switch for the passenger side window and the power lock switch located in the drivers arm rest work fine.Any one got any idea if this is the window control module thats bad or is the motor burned out or what.
ssduramax 03-31-2005, 05:09 PM not sure but give this a try, it used to work on my old truck,
with the key on or at least acc., (so the windows should work), press the window switch in the direction you need it to go and hold it there, then slam the door while the button is still depressed.
see if the motor starts working, could be dust on the contacts.
SARGUY 03-31-2005, 05:22 PM SSduramax,I already tried that and no go, I also dissassembled the armrest and unpluged the switch, everything seems OK as far as I can tell visually. If I can verify that the switch is bad I will just buy a new one and install it,but the dealer won t take returns on electrical parts so I want to be sure that the switch is the problem.New switch is around 100.00 bucks
ShumDit 03-31-2005, 11:17 PM Do a search ~ IIRC there were some issues w/a controller. I'm stretching here but it seemed like it was located in the pass rear door and affected the drivers door window. Don't believe me ~ do a thread search.
ockgator 04-01-2005, 01:09 AM smack motor with hammer or other suitable tool while holding switch down, sometimes brushes stick in motor. Another trick is to turn key to run, do not start engine, and move switch to up and down positions, if dome lights flicker then motor is usually bad
Kwilson 04-01-2005, 02:16 PM Sarguy,
I have the same problem with my passenger side door. Window will not go up or down. A while back someone in another thread said something about having to re-flash a control module. At the time this did not sound right. This implies that there is an EPROM associated with a computer somewhere??? I figure it's a switch problem or a motor problem. Please lt me know what you find and how you troubleshoot it.--Thanks Ken
ob_1jr 04-01-2005, 02:19 PM Out of curiosity, is there a fuse for the power windows? I haven't looked at mine that close to see if there is one, but I would think there would be. Try to go the simplest way (something I have learned from working avionics on F-16s) first. It's an idea anyway.
on edit, I was looking at the owner's manual and there is a Circuit breaker for the window. It should be in the center instrument panel fuse box. (underneath the instrument panel, to the left of the steering column) Hope this helps. You should be able to just reset it and see if it pops again. If it pops again then I would look to your motor.
Kwilson 04-02-2005, 11:16 PM I think the circuit breaker works for all the windows. They all work except the passenger side. Thanks for the tip.--ken
ob_1jr 04-03-2005, 01:02 AM when looking in the manual it says that the CB is for the left power windows. Anyway, in that same fuse box there are fuses for the body control module (three of them). In the older trucks (1999-2001) there is a signal that goes to the body control module (BCM). I am looking at the chiltons for those year trucks. Of course there could be differences in the wiring, but I still think it has to go through the BCM still. It's something simple to look at and if you are out of warrenty, that would be something that the dealers might do and charge you for something else. Not to say all dealers are stealers, but I like to see for myself if I can. Hopefully you can find out what is wrong. If you do, please post the result so we can know what fixed it.
bonehead1317 04-14-2005, 07:34 PM you ure its a power problem i would take door panel off and check the cables they brake and you have to replace the whole regulator
haneym 04-15-2005, 10:03 AM each door has its own control module. my passenger side went out about a month ago. the remote unlock happens to go to through the passenger door so thats what they had to reprogram, the little key fob remotes not the trucks computer. i would imagine thats what went out on your truck. do all the other windows/doors work with the switches on each door (not the drivers door)?
the part is around $130 at the dealer (mine was replaced under warranty) and around $75 through gmpartsdirect.com IIRC. do a search for "passenger electronics dead" and it should bring up the thread we had a few weeks ago. member "corwin" was the starter of the thread. good luck.

Well, I currently have a Chevy S-10 but last year, my drivers window just stopped working. I work more hours then the dealer does, so I could not get the truck into have it looked at. Well, I would try the windows once in a while and one day, POW! It started working again and I have had no more problems. :D
New truck on order. 2005 crew cab, 2wd, dura/alli 11900 gvr and the SLT package. I can hardly sleep at night, waiting ...
