Has anybody tried tapping the boost boot on an LLY to hook up there boost gauge? Instead of tapping the manifold and risk messing it up. Anybody wondering the same feel free to chime in. Just a question I thought worth asking about because i have gauges coming in. thanks

That you will regret trying.

Explain? Not hold the boost? Leak? Suck in dirt?

First off the silicone will not thread-tap, nor will the fitting stay in place because of flex/expansion in the boot. Unless you put a inner and outer steel/alu plate for the mount that won't work.
I assume you were thinking of the turbo outlet boot, which is pre-intercooler. You want the boost fitting post intercooler preferedly, in the upper intake manifold.. You want to see what psi is going into the engine and if you install it anywere else your reading will not be correct as you lose 2-5psi before the charge gets into the engine depending on the boost level and heat soak.. That loss is from going through the I/C, pipes, throttle body and fitting flex/leak.
Your factory boost sensor for the ECM is in the intake manifold btw..

you probably should just tap the intake tube, which is post intercooler. (the pipe that leads into the turbo.) Do it right the first time, you won't have any problems later. Myself, I just bought the BD manifold from SOCAL diesel....best 100$ i've ever spent. My buddy drilled and tapped his '07 dodge, and he dropped the turbo to make sure he didn't get any shavings in it, but the bolts were all seized on.. PITA.

no throttle body on LLY's

LLY uses a t-fitting on the wastegate hose. Takes a couple minutes to install.

x2 if you are scared of drilling and tapping.

LLY's DO NOT have a waste gate.....LB7's do....

My thoughts exactly, get a SD manifold from SOCAL easiest thing to do.

That's not quite right. The air intake path is from filter ductway to turbo where it's compressed, then to intercooler, then on to manifold, cylinder, etc...

The correct boost tap should be "post turbo. (the pipe that leads to the intercooler.)"

If you tap the "pipe that leads into the turbo", all you'll ever get is vacuum.

First off....dumdum?!?!? I would like to think everyone on here is educated enough to be able to respond to a post without resorting to name calling.

Secondly the LMM (released in mid-year 2007) was the first Duramax engine (or GM diesel engine for that matter) to recieve a Throttle body. It got it because it needs it to work in conjuntion with the EGR and the DPF to evoke the regeneration/cleaning process.

So maybe you need to educate yourself a little better before you go responding to someone trying to nicely correct you by calling names

what could you possibly "screw up" while tapping the manifold? remove the boot from the intercooler-to-manifold tube and block with clean rag to prevent shavings from falling in. drill correct sized hole in manifold. tap said hole with appropriate sized npt tap, checking fit when you get about half way down the tap. run a shop vac around in there to pick up rogue shavings, remove rag, reinstall boot, coat threads with sealer and tighten. piece of cake. if you decide to sell your truck, install an appropriate sized pipe plug in the hole, it'll look like it grew there-

Did mine like haywire did his, looks factory. The shavings from drilling and tapping fall out as the manifold is verticle at this point.
