I let my dad borrow my truck to take some stuff to the dump yesterday. When he brought it back he told me it was doing something strange in the frontend whenever you turned.

I got in the truck and went for a test drive. When ever you turned the wheels like pulling oot of the driveway and at the end of the street it was like the 4WD was engaged. The light said 2WD. I put it in nuetral and pushed the 2WD button again. It still acted like it was in 4WD. I then cycled it to 4WD and back to 2WD and then it didn't act like the 4WD was engaged anymore.

I ask my dad and he said he never touched the selector and I believe him. Its only about 2 miles to the dump and it is all paved. No need for 4WD.

Anybody else ever had this happen? Any suggestions as to what might have been going on? Is there any reason to be concerned?

run it and see if it acts up again. sometimes the actuators can become sticky from non-use.

Is it actually in 4WD or is the front diff locked?

I have driven it several times since and it has not happened again.

As far as the actuators becoming sticky. Wouldn't you have to had put it in 4wd at some point or can it somehow do it without you doing anything.

The truck was in 2wd and had been for several weeks before he used it. He never put it in 4wd but it drove like it was in 4wd. When ever you went to turn at low speeds (like turning out of the driveway and at the end of the street when turning onto the main road) it had the same dragging, biting resistance in the front just like it does when you have 4wd engaged.

As far as it actually being in 4wd or the front diff being locked. It is a 2005 and has the push button selector for 4wd. There is nothing to lock on the front hubs.

I cycled it thru 4wd and back to 2wd and then it quit.
