Had a fifth wheel hitch installed yesterday and went to pick the truck up today.
I get in start it up, no power steering no power brakes:eek: . What the heck?
Install shop took a look, on the drivers side in proximity to the rear axle there is a cluster of wires, they cut the ties to inspect the wires, no visible nicks or any damage to the wires. Start the truck back up to move over to the hoist to get a better look, brakes and steering back again:confused: ! Re-inspect the wires, nothing visible.
Any guesses on this one?

1. Is it possible the installation of the hitch and the occurance of this problem are merely a conisidence?
2. Sid, thanks for the info! Since this has never happened and the truck has 90K miles should I have this 'pressure test' done or should I just pretend it never happened?
3. One more little thing, I crawled under the vehicle during lunch I noticed a very, very, very small amount of brake fluid (3-4 drops) leaking from the passenger rear brake assembly could this contribute?

It sounds like a coincidence. I can't think of a way installing a hitch would affect the brake/steering system.
I wouldn't worry about it if it happened the way the bulletin describes.
Any amount of brake fluid leakage is very bad. Make sure the master cylinder is full and bring it in to be repaired.

Update on the fluid leakage. It is an axle seal.
PS pressure test OK

wow.. got in the truck this moring and had the exact same thing happen to me...!
but i said p*ss on it and tried to horse the truck around to get her back in the driveway. as soon as i began wrestling with the steering wheel i heard what sounded like air passing through the break pedal ??? then everything was fine...
so Sid ..there is nothing to worry about???? my truck never did have alot of steering assist while at slow speeds, but this morning i had none. truck rolled down the driveway without steering or brakes... had to jump on the brakes
to get her stopped.
parking lot problem i can deal with....not the highway.
Thanks Tom

 Just had mine replaced $437 parts and labor only 41k on the odo. While it was at the stealer the pump started working again  but with all the problems over the last few years with these chunk-o-she-ite pumps I had them replace it anyway. I just hope I don't have a problem with the hydro-boost later or the steering-gearing!!!
