: JD 8100-Another 58k in debt
_nar_ 03-31-2005, 12:28 AM I finally got a tractor bought. Looked at several at dealers, and they were all more money, a lot more hours, and a lot more beat up. This tractor belonged to a neighbor that is a trucker and didn't really need a tractor this big. It is in pretty good shape, and much better now after I got it detailed. A little under 4600 hours. Nearly new tires all around too. It also has an 840 loader, the biggest loader JD makes for a tractor. It has a really nice quick attach for the entire loader and for the bucket.
Now hopefully we get out of this drought so I can pay for it.
_nar_ 03-31-2005, 12:31 AM Here is my combined debt. Light seems a bit off in this picture.
dieseldummy 03-31-2005, 12:43 AM Are you going to farm with that or just use it for the loader? Should have got a red one anyways...
fredw 03-31-2005, 12:57 AM thats not a bad deal at all i must say, good for you, my brother bought a used 7800 with a deere loader a few years ago with 7600hrs, and paid i think 70k cdn. for it, has worked the hell out of it and has had no problems, we use to have a 4430jd but after 15000hrs she got tired, i heard the newer ones are good closer to 20000hrs. looks like you are in to row croping with the width of the tires
i as well found a good deal a few years ago, driving threw a small town in sask, i came across a 8140 mf tractor, i thought it would be way out of my price range but gave the guy a call, he was retired for 3 years and thought it was time to sell, i told him i had a 2290 case to trade him for(witch i really thought he would turn down because of retiring) but he came and looked at mine, gave me 6k more than what i paid for it 5 years before(16k), on the trade, it cost me 40 thousand tobout and it had 810hrs on, in a mint like new condition, then gave me the blade which was brand new for 1500 dollars(new was 5500), i used the tractor 3 years no problems, last year i plowed snow for over six months(made enought) and sold it this spring when i had my first problem, (trans. fork was wore out) on a new 175 mcCormic, so i know how it feels to have a great buy and a great tractor, he was a very good starting and low fuel consumtion tractor, will miss it

_nar_ 03-31-2005, 01:49 AM Are you going to farm with that or just use it for the loader? Should have got a red one anyways...
It's a big farming tractor. Pulls lots of stuff. The loader was just an added bonus, it will be handy. Our other loader is a 158 on a 1969 4000.. Not near as big as this..
Red? ick... I wanted a good one.:muahaha:
We have always had deere. Dad already had an 8100, so I knew I liked them a lot. They are our big tractors now. And even bigger with the right thing plugged into them.:ro)
_nar_ 03-31-2005, 01:55 AM fredw-that's some pretty good income from plowing snow... Is that your driveway? I thought you had a farm and a combine?
We are mostly row crop, beets and corn. Both 8100s have 420-80-46s, about a 16 inch wide tire. Wide enough to put the power down, but narrow enough to not knock the beets out of the row at harvest.
duramaximizer 03-31-2005, 02:24 AM you made out on that massey good deal. you prolly sold it for close to what you have in it and made out like a fat rat. that is a cheap working tractor if i have any idea how many hours you put on it.
fredw 03-31-2005, 03:12 AM the hr meter had 1350hrs i think when i sold it, ya i am a city farmer till i find the right farm, brother has the main farm where the machenery is at, the plowing money was once in a lifttime, happy to grab a bit of it, there was times when they had over 20 plows running for just one company, natural gas was making big bucks
i found a few pictures from last years plowing,

partsguy662 03-31-2005, 10:14 AM Plowing snow with a 9400 deere has to be a riot....And to think I move snow around with a 1945 deere.....
fred, you guys must get some serious drifting up there judging by the pics.......
dmaxalliTech 03-31-2005, 10:35 AM You got the truck in there for a tow vehicle? I see what looks like the remains of a snatch strap, musta got the red one stuck huh?
LMAO

Hey man, nice tractor. I saw an 8400 with a 840 loader for the first time the other day....seen a million 8400's but that was the first with a loader....and he was hooked to a disc going to the field.
We just got a 6420 w/FWD and a 640 loader. Been nice so far.
DOLIVER 03-31-2005, 01:57 PM Hey "NAR"
The JD 8100 looks like a great buy to to me (looks like it has been taken care of). Where are you from in Wyoming I grew up on a farm near Torrington and now live in New York for the time being. If you are looking for any more equipment my parents are having a farm sale on April 12th here is the link: http://www.helbergnussauction.com/auctions/oliver/oliver.htm
GO GREEN!!

Bodysurfer 03-31-2005, 02:07 PM So NICE to live in Southern California !! :ro)
vettelovralexand 03-31-2005, 03:05 PM How much is that loader rated for (lifting capacity and breakout force). I own a NH TM150 with a 72LA loader and it is incredible.
duramaximizer 03-31-2005, 03:47 PM ya looks like the dmax had all of the fun with the tow strap. lmao. i wish i could have been there. i would love to have the opertunity to plow with a real setup and make some cash.
dieselfumes57 03-31-2005, 09:42 PM i have never seen that much snow! i wanna see one of those tractors behind a duramax!
fredw 03-31-2005, 10:48 PM actually just in front of the deere was was a four foot snow wall, :D and he was stuck, i had to give him a pull back, they were in need of gaswell that was frozen off, we ended up bringing in a d9 dozer corked with a 14' blade, it had everything he had to get threw some of the banks
the deer could push good when up to speed, but the massy was unreal for getting threw on the first pass, it would plow so high in the front that i would have snow pilling up on the hood of the tractor, the front wheel assist have a real bonus in pushing over pulling:ro)

partsguy662 03-31-2005, 11:05 PM _nar_ - I forgot to mention....Nice looking tractor you got there! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
_nar_ 03-31-2005, 11:12 PM fredw-Yeah I would never buy a tractor that didn't have front wheel assist after running one. It's amazing the amount of wheel slip you get without it. Nice snow pics, I wish we got snow like that.. Stupid drought. The last big snow I have been told about was the year I was born.... Looks like fun...

Thanks. I bet moving snow on your 1945 open cab tractor is a lot of fun eh?

We just got a 6420 w/FWD and a 640 loader. Been nice so far.
Thanks.. I've been running in the field with the loader on so far. I just dropped the bucket so it was a little easier to see. Pretty nice to be able to pop it on and off so quick...
Those 6420s are pretty nice little tractors too...
partsguy662 03-31-2005, 11:17 PM Thanks. I bet moving snow on your 1945 open cab tractor is a lot of fun eh? Believe it or not, it's a riot....As long as it's not 20 below, that is...
Nothing like hearing two cylinders bang away.....http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif
It's the old man's tractor, otherwise I might do a few things to it to move the snow a bit faster...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/hihi.gif

I live in Wheatland. 60 or so miles from torrington. Dad had already told me we were going to that auction actually. Might try to buy that digger for parts for ours. Nice looking 4250 they have. Probably should have saved money and waited for that auction, but I wanted something that could pull bigger stuff than a 4250 can.

nar, you have no idea how close you are to the truth there...... http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/hihi.gif
_nar_ 03-31-2005, 11:30 PM How much is that loader rated for (lifting capacity and breakout force). I own a NH TM150 with a 72LA loader and it is incredible. I believe rated lifting capacity is 4500 pounds. Not sure on breakout force. It digs easily into stuff that seemed really hard to the 158. I need to read the manual and see what it says I suppose.

Even when they hot rod it, you aren't supposed to. Then again you have to follow their example...:grd:

You've seen the pic's of my old pulling tractor..more than once he walked away mumbling something to the effect of "http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/censored.gifing kid" http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/lol.gif
duramaximizer 04-01-2005, 01:54 AM sounds an aweful lot like my dad. from what i hear from my grandpa some things never change.
darn i know it's bad when i start relating my experience with older guys. damn i am doomed.
PEANUTGRWR 04-03-2005, 06:44 PM NAR CONGRATS ON THE THE NEW PURCHASE. I JUST GOT IN FROM MOWING THE YARD ;) THIS IS MY 8100 WITH OUTBACK AUTO-STEER MAN ONCE YOU HAVE RAN AUTO-STEER YOU WILL WONDER HOW YOU GOT ALONG WITH OUT IT :ro)
_nar_ 04-03-2005, 11:36 PM Wow is it green in texas. Looks nice. Your tires are a ways out, you run 36 or 40 inch rows? How expensive was the auto steer setup? Is it the type that turns the wheel in the cab, or the type that hooks into the steering pump hoses?
dieseldummy 04-09-2005, 02:28 AM nar, Any one planting beets up there yet? Today most of the county got started on theirs. I know what ya mean about the 158 loaders... we've got one on a '69 4020. Those 8000 series tractor sure have some good power, I pushed silage with one last year and it would walk up the pile in 12th gear if I wanted...
fredw, That sure is a lot of snow, we don't get much here but when we do we push it around with a JD 8440 with a 12' Degelman dozer. IIRC it is made in Canada, it surely is more overbuilt than the tractor it's hooked to.
_nar_ 04-09-2005, 02:44 AM dieseldummy-We have the planter hooked up, got it all set today... Waiting to see if it will rain or snow this weekend like the weatherman claimed it would. We'll probably start planting by tuesday. I know when I am down near greeley they always start a few days before we do on everything... Seems to always be a little warmer down there.
PEANUTGRWR 04-09-2005, 11:11 AM Nar, Im On 40 Inch Rows. Most Everything In West Texas Is On That. The Outback Hooks Into The Steering Lines So Theres No Motor Mounted To The Steering Wheel In The Cab. :)
