New Duramax owner with 600 miles. Love the truck but I have a bad case of the Duramax tick. Is this something I'm going to live with, does it get better? I traded in a 6 litre with CSK. Any comments.

I've had 2 durmax's both of them ticked when new and went away fairly quickly. It's hard to say for sure but I think at a couple thousand miles it was gone.

I have also had two duramax's, both ticked when new but after a few thousand miles they both stopped ticking.

I have 45k and mine ticks bad, But i think it might be a exhaust leak at the headers. Anybody have miles on theres w/a tick,

I had the tick for about 5,000 miles. I'm at 22,000 now and to be honest I hadn't even thought about the tick for months.

I have this problem as well. I have a 05 LLY and my tick started at about 300 miles. At 600 I took it back to the dealer thinking it was a exhaust leak. They told me when I went to pick it up that they have a service bulletin on these things and the sound was internal to the engine. The service bulletin said this noise that sounds like metallic ticking was see in some vehicles and after internal teardown and inspection, no long or short term damage was seen. I have 1600 miles now and still ticking. I sure hope it goes away because it sounds like crap. Also it doesn’t give me great confidence in this new $48k truck I just bought. I can say other than the annoying tick, the truck is sweet.

My truck had the tick when I bought it. At first oil change it went away and stayed away for two oil changes. Just changed the oil last monday and the tick is back. It really stands out when you first hear it but now that I have been around it a couple of days I hardly notice it. I did change back from synthetic to dino on this oil change. Will go back to my original brand at next oil change just to see what happens.

Mine ticks too. Some days is does, some days it doesn't. 40K miles.
It has all of the 2001 "quirks". But it runs great, every day!

My EX 2001 2500HD 6.0 with the infamous Piston Slap, I still think it knocked louder than my Dmax but GM always said it was normal Censored. 145,000 miles on it when I sold it with no motor problems, maybe I was just lucky.

Have had no Ticking in either of my Dmax's.
