When I do a cold start up, I get a high pitch screeching sound coming from the bottom rear portion of my engine. It's so freakin loud that I can't pinpoint it to the engine nor the tranny. I also checked my belt and accessories and made sure it's not coming from up there. It's only on cold startup and only lasts about 2-4 seconds. Once gone, it never comes back until I start it up again when she's cold. Hot start up's are fine - no screech. Can you guys throw me some ideas?

Would sound like a belt to me but i'm not there. Just before you shut it off next time run a bar of soap on the underside of your belt without getting your fingers cut off while its running. Shut it down and wait for however long it normaly takes to squeel on a cold start. If the squeel is gone, its the belt. (ole trick my dad taught me) Works good for squeeling belts at opetating temps too!

sounds like your belt might be a little loose or there is greese/oil/diesel on it. it sounds like that the belt is moving but a wheel that it is supposed to turn is slipping. wich will make a horrible screeching sound. my old T/A had a loose belt and when the a/c kicked in it would screech for a second untill the wheel speed caught up to the belt speed. hope this helps. but im sure others will come to your rescue in a little bit if im wrong.

The sound is definately not coming from the belt. I can hear it from the front, but when I get underneath the truck where the tranny is, it's freakin' ear piercing!!!!

Pull dust cover off the bottom of the trans & inspect flexplate, GMCTD had similar; cracked flexplate was the cause
