I just changed my rear diff oil and put in 4 qts of Mobil 1.
I recently heard to use only 3 qts, which puts the oil level 1.5 inches below the fill hole.
What's the correct amount?

The topic forum that I read was GM 2500 & 3500 HD...
There is no specific year involved which can involve dmax's, detroits etc..
Not to step on any toes or upset anyone but this is not showing as a dmax 1st gen (lb7) 2001-2004 topic(unless a moderator or someone else changed the topic thread)

Point is people are NOT reading the forum subject matter and just post. We are moving a tremendous amount of threads daily, you have no idea honestly.

Now get off my toe :D

Don't think it bothers us one bit from questioning our actions,we appreciate the feedback.

I agree with gearhead, mine almost took 4 qts.

I fill mine right up to the bottom of the fill hole, which is the upper level spec according to my owner's manual. There has been a lot of discussion/confusion about this, but I remember DmaxAlliTech posting a while back to go ahead and fill it up to the bottom of the fill hole regardless.

IIRC, spectulation was that GM lowered the fill level due to oil seal leaks, i.e. they wanted to reduce warranty $$$.

Is it better to fill to the threads? Probably from a heat disappation standpoint.

I have always filled up to the hole and let a little run out of the hole to make sure that I have enough in the diff.
