: help installing factory power extending mirrors
dmaxlover 03-30-2005, 07:48 PM Has anyone installed power extending trailering mirrors on a truck that was not originally equipped with them. I picked up a set off a 2004, and want to install them on my 2002. Will it work? and if so, what do I need?
skidsteerloader 03-31-2005, 01:02 AM Do a search on here for power tow mirrors or something similar, the topic has been discussed before. I myself swapped over to them but I have an 04. Everything worked (heat, turn signals, glass adjust) but you will need to visit the dealer to have BOTH mirrors programmed with the DPF code. I believe your 02 does have the propper switches. The way the mirrors extend or retract is by putting the smaller mirror selector switch in neutral or centered and then pushing the larger 4 way switch left or right to extend or retract. Also mirrors should respond while you are holding the switch. Mine would extend or retract fully with just the touch of the switch, this was because they were acting like I had power folds until I got them reprogrammed. Hope this helps. Also, if I remember correctly the tow mirrors have two plugs which will plug in by the power window switch (underside) and the basic power mirrors only have one plug. My truck had an empty spot where the 2nd plug went. Not sure about yours, but more than likely it is there. Door panel removal is easy, just take your time. Good Luck!!
tabatasu 03-31-2005, 11:58 AM dmaxlover,
How much did you pay for your mirrors? I have a set off of my 2004.5 that are for sale, but don't know what a reasonable price would be to ask for them. I traded them out for a set of TTC, because I haul a 5th wheel and the added length and small inset mirror made a huge difference.
tbyrne 03-31-2005, 06:19 PM Should be the same proceedure for the 2005 trucks?

I payed $200.00 used with a few thousand miles on them.

Just pm me if you are intrested.
I won't guarantee they will work electronically on a 2001 or 2002.
skidsteerloader 04-02-2005, 03:35 PM dmaxlover Do the mirrors not work on your truck, change your mind, or something else? Noticed you are willing to part with them. Just Curious.

after I seen what is involved with installation, I don't want to mess around.
plus these mirrors weren't available on a 2002, so I'm not sure if I can even get a switch for them, or the computer reprogrammed.
skidsteerloader 04-03-2005, 09:14 PM Its really not that hard, and you should have the correct switch already, I looked at my GFs 2000 silverado, and she has the correct switch in her truck. I would imagine dealer should be able to do the reflash, so if you really want to use them, I would suggest giving it a try. You can always switch back to the way it was if they do not work.
dmaxlover 04-04-2005, 07:15 AM I may still give it a try, I'll talk to the dealer see what they say.
skidsteerloader 04-04-2005, 06:03 PM Just be weary of the ol IT CANT BE DONE IT WILL VOID YOUR WARRANTY IT MAY FRY YOUR COMPUTER lines that some dealers like to use. MANY have done this mod with no probs.
tabatasu 04-05-2005, 02:03 PM Hey, if anyone is interested, I have a pair that I removed from my 2004.5. I opted for the TTT mirrors, because of the hauling that I do. If you are interested, PM me and we will see what we can do.
