I have a question for the group regarding fuel mileage on a 2002 1500 crew cab loaded and empty. I know this is somewhat off the subject of d/a but I have a buddy that just purchased a used (2002) 1500HD with a 6.0 motor and he was wondering what kid of mileage he should be getting empty and loaded with a small pull trailer (20 foot).

I know some of you guys out there have had some past experience with this truck. Let me know!!

I had a 2002 2500HD 2wd x-cab with the 6.0L. I got 15 highway and 13 city. Pulling my 5500# trailer it would get 11 or so. It did have an exhaust and filter for mods which helped increase mileage by 2.

I sold my 03 2500HD with the 6.0 to get my current Duramax. for the life of me I could never get better than 10mpg in that truck period..city/highway/towing..all the same. I did tons of things to help the mileage, but nothing ever worked.

I don't personally know anyone with a 6.0 HD that is getting better than 11.

fyi...I did intake, exhaust, headers, hypertech, tb spacer...and on and on...

confirmed on the 10 MPG's I consistently got 10.4 in winter and like 10.8/11.2 in summer empty. Towing fagettaboutit!! 6.4 no matter when or where. Believe me when I tell ya, aint passin no gas stations with a 6.0 gasser short bed --small tank-- towing 6K! ( BTW my TT was like 7800 lbs but who's counting ;)

Add another one that had an 03 HD Crew Cab with 6.0. The wife could get a max of 14 on the hwy, but I could only get 12-13. Mixed driving typically saw 10-12. No mods on the truck except for 265's.

Had a 99 4X4 long bed extended cab. When I was not towing I got 12.5 - 13.5, when towing 8k pound trailer, I got 8 miles per gallon.

thanks guys, you really made my friends day. He says he got much with his 5.3 1500 something like almost twenty on the highway empty and around twelve to fourteen towing.

My old 2002 1500 4.8 V-8 would get 20 to 21 on the highway and would outrun my brothers 2500HD 6.0 up till aroud 75 mph, then he would start to close the gap so I would hit the brakes and act like I was done racing and I WON!!!!!!!!!

I too traded my 03 2500hd 6.0 for my 04.5 d/a. I usually got 10-11 in the city and maybe 13 on the hwy if I babied it.

I think you have a Duramax Diesel with the 6.6- thats what the LLY is... they are talking about the 6.0 gasser motor that gets the bad mileage. ;) If I would have gotten 17 in my 6.0 gasser I would have kept it. LOL

I had an '00 and '02 with the 6.0. Both were CC/SB's with the 4.10 rear gear and mileage was about 10-11 empty and anywhere between 6 and 8 pulling my old 5er weighing about 10k. I also could just about never pass a station! I am now loving my Dmax that's for sure especially when this summer's gasoline prices hit!

Had them all. These are highway numbers. All extended cab short box 4x4 models.
5.3L = 17 (1999)
6.0L = 14 (2000)
7.4L = 13 (1998)
8.1L = 11 (2001)
6.6L = 18 (winter blend) 20 otherwise. (2001)
