While driving today I noticed the trans. temp was one line above 150 degrees. Is this normal for 63 degree outside temp and no load? Checked the fluid and it was full when hot. Also it seems to be shifting normal.

When my truck was stock it rarely moved the gauge off of 100 degrees and usually ran only up to about 110 unloaded. When i first got the hypertech i got it up to 150 for the first time and it settled down to about 130 after a while. If i am just driving around it still hovers in the 120-130 range.

i have only seen higher than normal tranny temps when pulling up a big grade in the heat of summer, and other than that mostly in the normal position, without pulling it is hard to get the needle of the low pin, but then up here it is winter half the year):h ):h , must be a southern thing

YEAH I KNOW THERE ARE 10 THREADS THAT ALL TELL ME 130-190 IS A OKAY!

So I thought I would tell my story anyways. My transmission guage never ever comes off the low mark, 100? No big deal. Fluid always looks good and tranny always shifts good. There have been 3 times when the tranny went to 150. Stuck in snow, trying to get out. 4low rock crawling up some steep hills and when I pulled 3 1/4 mile passes the other day it went to 150 but went right back down.

So today I am driving, 70F outside transmission guge is at 150 on the highway. Go into town and gauge goes up to 180F. I mean it has never ever went this high before.

A little piece of info, on my 3rd 1/4 mile I was in the 135HP seeting and I limped through the traps.

So whats the verdict? Did I hurt my transmission? Is there somthing I should be looking for or some service I should perform? Any input woud be apprectiated. I am going to clean my cooler and radiator because on the way home from the tracks I drove through more bugs and butterflys then I ever have before. Looked like a masacar on the front of my truck. I am also thinking about pulling my spin on and checking for metal. Whats next????????

One thing that may be different than last summer for you (winter doesn't count, since its cold in Colorado); when did you add the quad? The power adders (quad in your case) have a tendency to heat the tranny fluid up more so than the stock tunes. This is very noticeable when switching modes on my TTS ECM. Just a thought,,,,,

Yeah I added the Quad last year during the end of summer going into fall. This spring is my first go around with the latest Quad revision. So that could be part of it, although I did not notice these higher temparatures untill today. I have had the new Quad on for a few weeks.

I removed the grill and sprayed everything with aproduct called alumaprep. Then I rinsed. This stuff will clean aluminum in no time.

After tomorrow I will report back what temparatures I am noticing.

If I am traveling on the highway at 75-80 + mph( pulling or not) and on a long trip, my tranny temperature pretty much matches my engine temperature at 180-190° with outside temperature about 80° +. Short trips on highway and tranny stays cooler.

Well it has been about 25 days since I cleaned my radiator, intercooler, tranny cooler and AC cooler with a product called alumiprep. It can be bought at paint stores. It chemically roughens the surface of aluminum.

I removed the radiator shroud and grill. I sprayed the product on and let it sit for a few minutes. I rinsed with a pressure nozzle. Did this a few times.

Here are the results. My tranny guage has not went past 150F. Same ambient temparatures. Before I was reaching 170+. I also noticed my engine takes a little longer to warm up and cools down more when decelarating from 75 to 0 mph. Like when coming off of the highway it will really cool down. Drops to 180.

So depending on how dirty your cooling system is, you might notice some real life gains from cleaning your cooling system.

Those bugs and other debris leave a clear residue that traps in heat.
