: Would you do it again?

So for those of you who have already had your injector problems, would you do it all over again? Or knowing what you know now would you have stayed away from the LB7 or diesel all together?

Sure I would.

I've had 125K almost trouble free miles before they had to be replaced so far so why not.

Luckily my LB7 has new injectors courtesy of PO. It's not just the LB7 which has problems. My Ford also came with bad ones. With the skyrocketing cost of maintenance and complexity of modern diesels, I can't see the payback. Diesel fuel costing 50% more than gasoline doesn't help either! If I didn't already own two, I don't think I would be very interested in any diesel.

I wish I would have found this site before I bought my truck and not after to solve all the problems. I've already spent some good money on head gaskets. I got lucky that my ECM was under warranty. My FPRV has been going bad for a while and I have 1-2 injectors that are taking a dump. Throw in some pump rub in the transfer case in the future and I'll be set! Other than that, I love my truck! I couldn't sell it if I wanted to right now though. Once I get everything fixed, it will be good to go for a long time hopefully.

Absolutely. There's not a vehicle out there that doesn't have its achilles heel.

Whether it's injectors or anything else, things wear out and need repaired. Always have been and always will be.

Yeah, I definitely would do it again. In fact I did. I went from an '05 to an '03. The new engines are definitely way too complex and they are now requiring new diesels where I live to do emissions. Wtf? Like ASCTLC said, every truck has an Achilles heel.

Just bought mine, has issues but have nver owned any vehicle that was perfect. Al least GM is fixing the problem, the known ones anyway

I have had mine for only three months and have already had to change the water pump.110k. Other than that I love the truck. Oh the injectors were just done when I bought the truck by the dealer that I bought it from.

Not me, boys. I just traded my 2002 ec/sb lb7 in for a 2009 cc/lb 2500hd 6.0. The diesel was great for towing my 28 ft. trailer, but the maintenance concerns , cost of diesel fuel in Canada, lack of heat in cold Northern Ontario weather was no longer worth it to me. The 6.0 will tow or hawl anything I put on it. I drove the lb7 for 7 years, liked it a lot, but that's it for me and diesels. I'm 57 years old, I know when I've had enough. For those who tow heavy a lot of the time, duramax is the only way to go.

Truck on, boys. Gerry

Definately, had replacement injectors on $GM$ so all is good here, actually looking for another lb7 2wd, 4x4, don't matter for the right price. :beerchug::saluteusa:

I too wish I would have found this site before my purchase. I would have stepped it up an engine version or two. It has been said before. The lb7 will prove to be one of the most costly trucks in the long run. Still like it, but it would be gone if it was not needed for work.

I had mine for 5.5 years. 2 sets on injectors and a fuel pump. Injectors were free, fuel pump was around $1500 with labor. Gave up after fuel prices spiked to .70 more a gallon and sat there for 6 months(still at .40-.60 here). Miss the truck dearly, but not the fillups. Riding in an Impala and using the Trailblazer for the towing needs or my friends suburban.

What's not to love with a truck that has 106K miles and has cost me only $49 in repairs (ISS). It starts quickly, runs flawlessly, gets outstanding mileage, pulls like a Mack truck, and other than diesel fuel costing more than premium fuel, it was worth the trip. I would buy another.

For me, not a chance. Lets see.

04 with 55K miles.

Injectors twice,
Both front hubs
Steering shaft twice
Steering gear box
PS Pump
PS Control valve

And the pile still does not have power steering at idle with brakes applied. I'm not impressed with my truck at all. If it wasn't paid for and I didn't want another payment, it would be gone.

outcoled, have you looked into the brake booster? just a thought. i have only had mine for a few months now, just had injectors done, pulling the transfer case to put in a pump rub stoper (kennedy diesel), have to pull it anyway cuz the center seal went bad, both hubs replaced, and i looking to put a banks stinger system on it. all i would do is go to a newer truck. duramax all the way!!!

Not sure if I would go with an LB7, maybe an LLY with the overheat fix. For sure would stay with a diesel.

I would however: 1)buy 55 gallon of oil for oil changes up front...which I had done this in 2003. 2) Install an oil bypass and extend my oil changes since day one.

Let's see......

Water pump, Pump rub, and a vacuum pump. After 184,600 miles that is alright in my book.

Yea it is for sale in the marketplace, but I am wanting a 07 classic Duramax I found!

I've already abandoned my lb7 for an lly with the egr cooler removed. GM paid for the first set of injectors, total cost just over $6400. I refuse to pay for the next set, so I got rid of the issue.

Seriously, if I had to do it again I would have waited for the LLY now that EFI live is there. I am looking at injector set number 2 and it is doubtful that GM will pay this time.

I would buy mine again, the next owner is going to be a happy person! Ofcourse that is going to be my now 2yo boy. So I have a little time to get a few bugs worked out.

Ya, I love the truck and the power but as soon as I near that warranty period being expired I have a feeling I'll be trading her in. No way I'm gonna fork over that much on a repair. All vehicles have their downfalls but they don't seem to be nearl as costly as these LB7 injctor issues.

lb7 all the way :D , my truck has never broke unless i broke it , i must be lucky . it has been a great truck , to me the emission standards are not woth better injectors . wich mine have never went out , but i think they are getting close .

I would not have gotten an LB7 had I known all the injector issues. Putting them where the sun don't shine is just plain stupid. The high price of fuel more than compensates for the better economy (resulting in higher overall operating costs).

Now the glow plugs are going out at 78k miles but I am going to wait until it warms up so that I can try to replace them HOT to try and keep them from dropping the tips.

Injectors, rusty fuel lines, fragile glow plugs, fragile transfer case, fragile locker, brakes that rust and drag, pathetic ground connections, 4x4 actuator system sucks, then the fuel issues with gelling, dog turd biod, piss poor ULSD etc. Blech.

Not to say that Ferd or Doodge are better as they have issues too. But a 6.0 or 8.1 gas would have done all I needed to do and would have cost the same to operate. But wouldn't have the same fuel sentitivites, injector problems, etc.
