: DING DING DING door chime solved
problemchild 03-30-2005, 12:23 PM I just realized the other day that the driver speaker is the only one making the EXCESSIVELY LOUD ding noise. So I pulled the head unit and switched the speaker wires front=back Left=right
Now the right rear speaker is the dinging speaker and its SOOOOOOOOOOOO much quiter.
Hope this helps.....
ratlover 03-30-2005, 12:41 PM yup only the front dings.......

With the key turned to battery (first click), have radio off, and push and hold #6 preset button on the radio. Will display your current setting (LOUD or normal). If it displays "LOUD", repeat above steps and it will display "Normal".
LATER!
Max Power 03-30-2005, 05:43 PM I guess you could also use a relay to cut the speaker circuit when the truck is off. Everything would be normal otherwise.
TheMonkey 03-30-2005, 07:58 PM With the key turned to battery (first click), have radio off, and push and hold #6 preset button on the radio. Will display your current setting (LOUD or normal). If it displays "LOUD", repeat above steps and it will display "Normal".

Max Power 03-30-2005, 08:00 PM I guarantee pc knows about this. He still finds it too loud.
ssduramax 03-30-2005, 08:04 PM does this work on the 2004.5 as well??

sledman 03-30-2005, 10:49 PM i thought everyone knew about this
I didn't, but I do now! And loud really is LOUD!
nuts46 03-30-2005, 10:58 PM If you can put up with the door chime for about 10 minutes it will turn off by itself. If you close the door it will reset and drive you crazy for another 10 minutes or so.
kbstinky 03-31-2005, 09:42 AM How do we get a list of these little tricks.
Is there anything published that can be shared?????
TEXMudder 03-31-2005, 09:58 AM I agree, are there any more procedures we dont know about? Where did you find out about that one?
peekok 03-31-2005, 10:09 AM read the owners manual.
Max Payne 03-31-2005, 10:38 AM :exactly: read the owners manual.:exactly: YES!
DuckhunterInTN 03-31-2005, 10:51 AM It would still be nice to have a list rather than try to find them buried in the owners manual.
I would have never thought to look in the owners manual to see if I could turn down the door chime....
Max Payne 03-31-2005, 11:07 AM Yes, but had you read it from cover to cover, you would have already known...
ssduramax 03-31-2005, 12:59 PM and yet then we would not need you fine fellows here to point out these helpful tricks...
Z71 Grizzly 03-31-2005, 02:03 PM Has anybody still figured out about cutting it out completely on an 04.5 or newer. I don't want the thing to be on anytime. Annoys the heck out of me. I took the little box out on my 96 Z71 and that was the end of that. They should've left it the same.
Max Payne 04-01-2005, 10:21 AM This is what you need us fine fellows for... Excessive Chime Volume - kw radio performance loud amplifier amp program sound no noise audio speaker #PIT3023 - (Jun 17, 2004)
Excessive Chime Volume .
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the described symptoms in the PI.
Condition/Concern:
Customers may comment that the volume of the chime is too loud. This only applies on vehicles equipped with RPO "UQ7" and one of the following radio RPOs "UB1" or "UC6" without "Y91".
Recommendation/Instructions:
If changing the chime volume per SI Document ID number 844662 does not correct this concern perform the following: Reprogram the radio with new radio calibrations released in TIS2000. At the Calibration Screen (of TIS2000), under the "Equalizer" tab, select calibration 15126142 for "UB1" radio or 15126143 for "UC6" radio. This new calibration will reduce the chime volume to a more satisfactory level.
.
Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed. If these steps do not resolve the condition, please contact GM TAC for further diagnostic assistance.
Models:

Turfmower 04-01-2005, 01:45 PM How do you turn it off with a basic AM/FM Radio? Is there a wire you can just cut to get rid of all dinging?
03GMC2500HD 04-02-2005, 02:13 PM I just got in the habit of pulling the key out one click when I shut it off and I haven't heard the door chime in a year and a half!
westcoaster 04-02-2005, 08:34 PM :Nothing_f -:t I just get pi$$ed off every time this subject comes up.I hate those fr1gg1ng chimes any time any volume.GM should have given the people that think their smart enough not to forget to turn their headlights off, leave the doors open, etc. etc. etc. the option to turn the SOB's off. Thats my opinion and I am stickin to it.
Max Payne 04-03-2005, 04:18 PM Remember, it could be worse... The chime could have been programmed to play boy band music):h
Z71 Grizzly 04-03-2005, 11:23 PM Oh don't scare me now.
Max Owner 04-03-2005, 11:47 PM The preset #6 doesn't work on my 02. I did read the manual, cover to cover.... But that was three years ago.
01silveradoHD 04-12-2005, 04:56 AM Any ideas on how to get it quieter on an 01 it dosent go through the speakers.:snipersmi
jnieberlein 04-12-2005, 05:12 AM Find the dinger and wrap some electrical tape around it, redneck engineering to damp N the sound
TEXMudder 04-12-2005, 12:16 PM Max Owner, the preset button worked for me, but the only option I was presented with was to make it even louder. I'm talking hearing problem loud...
jnieberlein, the dinger is your speaker in the driverside front door...
jnieberlein 04-13-2005, 04:32 AM Any ideas on how to get it quieter on an 01 it dosent go through the speakers
Just a thought on an 01 I really dont know how the tape idea will work I just know back in the day we used to put tape over the speakers on a bus to quite them down in the back, yes it was a short bus but that is another thread:D
_nar_ 04-13-2005, 11:53 PM Any ideas on how to get it quieter on an 01 it dosent go through the speakers.:snipersmi
On an 01 it is a little dinger in a box in the dash under the steering column. You can find it by letting it ding and following that. Pull the panel under the column and you can pull that box out of the deal that holds it, open it and either pry the dinger off the board it is soldered to, or stick something in it to quiet or kill it. That's what I did on my 2000, just pullled it off the board.
01silveradoHD 04-16-2005, 01:08 AM Sounds like a plan to me I know what im doing tomorrow before i head to work..:grd:
