: Government rush to use bio is crazy
problemchild 03-30-2005, 12:16 PM Look how much more it pollutes
Emission 100% Ester Fuel 20/80 Mix (B20)
__________________________________________________ _______________________
Hydrocarbons - 52.4% 80/20-19.0%
Carbon Monoxide - 47.6% 80/20-26.1%
Nitrous Oxides - 10.0% 80/20 -3.7%
Carbon Dioxide + 0.9% 80/20-.7%
Particulates + 9.9% 80/20-2.8%
duramaximizer 03-30-2005, 12:25 PM lmao you would think the since of urgancy would increase with all of the advantages of bio over regular. NOT we are so damned slow it is unbelievable.
RonJT 03-30-2005, 12:36 PM I do not understand what you are showing.
King Nuzz 03-30-2005, 12:45 PM Where did you get those percentages from?
rjdake 03-31-2005, 02:50 AM I think you need to recheck your numbers.
Go to this site for an example of EPA figures
http://www.biodiesel.org/pdf_files/emissions.PDF
If they don't work for you, you can do a search and find more of the same at other sites. The rise in particulates is noted and is being researched. Some proposals to improve the figures are to change the timing, providing better burn.
Aside from that, there appears to be little standing in the way.
Only downside is that sniffing out a McDonalds might become problematic [there has to be one nearby ... I can smell it!]
Bronco 03-31-2005, 05:20 AM I do not understand what you are showing.
He is showing that the first colum is 100% bio and the second colum is 20% bio.
The reductions are compared to #2.
So basically all numbers are reduced except for carbon dioxide and particulate matter.
His numbers are less optimistic than the numbers posted at bio.org., never the less still better than #2.
PC would you mind posting your source? Probally a local news paper? Wonder where they got there numbers?
RonJT 03-31-2005, 10:28 AM Thanks Bronco.
I think there is plenty of research done with both B100 and B20 from what I have seen and the main issue was the rise in Nox.
As far as the particulates...I thought that was an issue with the new diesels because now they are so small they could stay in our lungs.
Traps are what I think Mercedes is doing..but the sulfur has to be gone from the fuel..for regular D#2.
mannytranny 03-31-2005, 10:53 AM Those numbers cant be correct. CO2 has to be much lower. Ive seen numbers from a variety of sources, and they all seem to indicate a significant reduction in CO2.
jklier 03-31-2005, 01:18 PM I think there's some confusion over what the numbers Problem Child is reporting represent. As is the case in the PDF file on emissions referred to higher up in this thread the numbers are NOT comparing B20 to B100. They are comparing B20 & B100 to conventional diesel.
In Problem Child's first line item...
Hydrocarbons - 52.4% 80/20-19.0%
This shows that B100 has a 52.4% REDUCTION in hydrocarbon emissions and B20 had a 19% reduction when compared to conventional diesel. In this case B100 is performing significantly better than B20.
The only place that the PDF file shows B100 performing worse is in NOX emissions. The data in the first post shows particulates higher in B100 but the report in the PDF file shows the opposite.
That's the way I interpret these reports.
John
Now on my second tank of B20
mannytranny 03-31-2005, 03:44 PM PC's chart = Tits on a boar.
You want to see a chart that is acually useful?

I always wondered how "universal" that term was!
Anyway, I read recently that the Governor of Indiana has signed an Executive Order requiring that all State owned vehicles use bio-based fuels (ethanol in gas, and biodiesel)...:cool2:
I am sure that all of the farmers here welcome the idea (and so do I!).
But it is another "rush" to biobased fuels within the government...:sheephump
steiner43511 05-05-2005, 09:00 AM i still dont see ohio doin anything about it.
Deadeye 05-05-2005, 02:15 PM or Colorado . . .
SpokaneRam 05-22-2005, 08:06 PM Except the guys who got W elected don't control the farmers....Boo Hoo.... And that means the dollars don't go to the people who have always bank rolled the Bush family...
yup...the Saudi's.....
 .... Biodiesel is good...for the USA... Keep the money home where it belongs.....

That's funny - I thought those that electewd him were the voters of the USA - didn't know the Saudi's could vote in our election..
BTW - What a waste of a first time post!
