Does anyone know if there is an RPO code for refrigerant in my air conditioning? My compressor seized and has R134 in it, i have a compressor on a parts truck 3 days away that i am not sure if it is R12 or R134. I have the build sheet for the parts truck.

Both trucks are 94's, the signature truck is the parts truck. The broken truck is the same except 4x4

I reckon it'd be 134. I know my 94 K1500 uses R134a.

When looking at the charge valve (at condensor or drier/ accumulator), remove the cap over the schraeder. Threads on the outside=R12. No threads outside=R134a.

Damn if that aint a simple way to put it.
The one is his question if I understand right he dosent have yet. But iirc 134 started in 93.

1993 Model year was the formal switch to R-134a
Some 92's are half and half

My rig, a 94, uses r134a. Recharged it over the summer.

doesn't matter, if it is a r12 compressor, then just buy some retro-fit fittings for the r134a, just remove all the old oil, and replace it with pag refrig oil. should work just fine as long as it bolts up alright and the pulley sizes are the same

In this case don't forget to change o rings at all fittings too.

Do not use PAG in a compressor that has had mineral oil run in it! This WILL cause compressor failure down the road. Even small traces of PAG mixed with mineral oil will eventually turn into a black tar substance over time. Use ESTER oil in a retrofit situation. 94 SHOULD be 134 as 93 was when R-12 became illegal to sell to the public, or to be produced in the US.
