: 6.0 K2500HD Crew Cab Long Bed
natewoz 12-28-2008, 09:06 PM Hi,
I'm looking at purchasing a 2006 K2500HD CC LB 4x4, with the 6.0. The truck has 51k miles. I'm new to the GM house since all the trucks I have owned to this point have been Fords, so I'm looking for a little input.
First off is fuel economy. The CC LB 4x4 is the biggest and heaviest truck and I am guessing that economy will be the least in this setup. Am I correct to assume an approximate 10 city 13 hwy?
Second, are there any particular problem areas (parts that are know to fail, signs of common problems) in these trucks to check before purchase? Is there a buyer's guide out there anywhere that highlights issues specific to these trucks?
Really looking for direct input from 6.0 CC owners.
Thanks
Well, first off you will love the truck. Second, i would say you are pretty close on the mileage, i have a reg cab and get 13/14. The problem areas that are common are the transfer case (pump rub, do a search and you will find more than enough info) and the wheel bearings go bad (probably not already, but probably will happen in the future especially if you put bigger tires on it). Other than those two common problems the trucks are great. Definitely want to do something about the pump rub as soon as you get the truck, not cheap to fix once it's too late.
natewoz 12-28-2008, 11:22 PM Please expand on the pump rub issue. Is there a TSB covering this issue that I can look up?
fisherman6.0 12-29-2008, 09:23 AM Sounds exactly like my truck (but 3 years newer). 10-13 should be right on.
I've only done recalls and the steering shaft on mine (probably not an issue with yours). Other than that, it's been excellent since new. No complaints at all.
Petr51488 12-29-2008, 11:17 AM Depending on what type of city driving, 10 is pushing it for me. I get maybe 8.. and mines a reg cab. They are pigs on gas though. Go diesel if you can. You won't be sorry.
natewoz 12-29-2008, 09:40 PM Thanks for the input. Unfortunately somebody beat me too it by a day. 3rd time it's happened on this hunt. Still keeping my eyes and ears open for another cc lb. Diesel is not an option, I just sold my Powerstroke F250 to move to a gas which will work much better for our lifestyle and climate (gets to be -40 or more in the winter).

8-10 is about right for around town, slower driving. Keeping looking on Craigslist, they are all over out there, my suggestion would be this, if your basing your decision on purchase with mileage. Figure out how many miles a year you will be driving, figure an additional dollar / gallon for diesel, and calculate out the difference. I think you are going to find that it's not as good as some think it is. I've had four Duramax's and loved each one, it's a Hellll of a motor, but I typically got 12-13 around town and 16-17 on the highway. If I slowed way down to 60, I could stretch a 19 but what fun is that. Too me, the extra money at oil changes, the dirty fuel you pick up when it's hard to find, fuel filters clogging up, and the fact that the repair on a duramax is going to be huge money someday when your warranty is out is why I went back to a simple gas motor. I know I'm going to probably catch some flack on this post but this is HO on deciding factors on the vehicle to buy. Depends on how many miles a year, and how many are actually pulling something that weighs more than 8,000#'s. A simple boat or RV twice a year? Unless your heading across the country, any 6.0 or 8.1 will be perfect. I would look into the 8.1 if I were you, but many have great luck with the 6.0, they both are excellent motors......this website is great, keep reading it, there's a ton of very intelligent guys posting on here and you will find many answers to any questions you ever have regarding your new truck.
Didn't mean to offend any duramax guys! I'm just jealous and can't afford king of the hill/strip/rv park.
Supa Dexta 12-31-2008, 12:58 PM 11/12 is the worst I get around town, and I don't go to easy on it.. I often see ~18 on the highway, on the display which works out to 17 by hand.
I have 145k on mine and love it. 9-10 in town and 12.5 on the road with the a/c at 75mph.
John DiMartino 12-31-2008, 01:17 PM Dont be afraid of an 8.1 truck as well, similar mileage, and way better towing power, and highway torque.
ockgator 12-31-2008, 02:55 PM Get the 8.1 Drove both before I bought my o2 and IMO the 6.0 is gutless in a CCLB, besides you'll get the ally trans and the 11.5 rear end, and when you hook up a trailer the 8.1 laughs at the load while the 6.0 struggles (again my opinion
hwy best was 12.9 city depends on how I drive it, but around 8-9... this with 3.73 gears and 35" tires
fisherman6.0 01-02-2009, 09:19 AM remember 2008 6.0's are not the same as what you are looking at...
natewoz 01-03-2009, 05:46 PM Well, the truck I was looking at sold before I could get to it. However, after an exhausting search this one followed me home. I suppose I can deal with just the extended cab.

It's a 2007 K2500HD LT 6.0. Was a GM executive vehicle for 300 miles. It has 1,200 miles on it with the GM certified 4/48 bumper to bumper and 5/100 powertrain warranty.
John DiMartino 01-03-2009, 10:33 PM Nice truck, and 52 more Hp than what you were looking at,as well as 2 more gears in the auto.:D
fisherman6.0 01-05-2009, 11:55 AM Nice truck! Do me one favor and paint the rear inner wheel wells black-that drives me nuts!!!!
It's funny how a GM Executive drive that!
