hey my names tom and i am new to the site. i have 2 codes that came up for my egr valve. one says i have low voltage on terminal a, and the other says that the egr is stuck in the closed positon. i have seen some talk about a a blocker plate and a finger stick but cant seem to find it for a lb7. what can i do to fix this problem?

thanks for your help

A blocker plate is really not needed on the LB7 and there was an effort not long ago to make a "finger stick" but that fizzled out I guess due to lack of success. You can read all about it here http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=214157

You probably had a P0405 Position Sensor A Circuit Low Voltage and a P1404 EGR Closed Position Performance. Maybe you don't have enough vacuum to run the EGR or the solenoid that directly controls the EGR valve is defective as is what happened to mine. I got tired of dealing with that crap so I bought EFI live and took care of it all. You might want to read the discussion below.

Good luck.

BTW, welcome to the site!

Do all LB7 have egr or just California emissions trucks?

i think it was just the later lb7s that had the egr and the cal. ones.

It was 2002-2004 CA trucks and those states that are on CA emissions requirements (NY and others) and clean fleet fed emissions trucks or something like that.

I found this quote from OC_DMAX that should clear up who has what emission on their trucks

You can have the CA emission package without actually purchasing the vehicle in California. Some states have adopted the CA standards. Your RPO codes that came with your truck typically have the emissions coded and usually look like this:

YF5 is for the CA emissions
FE9 is Federal emissions
NE1 is Northeast emissions this covers MA, ME, NY and/or VT (some of these states opted in at different times, at least that is my understanding.)

There may be others. So look in your glove box. Look for one of the three above and as a minimum, you will know what you have. Also note, that in the notice they mentioned a "VCL" code, not sure exactly what that is.

VCL is Clean Fuel Vehicle Fleet emissions.
