I am going to go look at a '95 2500 6.5 ext cab, 5 speed, 4x4 short box next this monday. I have looked at it up close buy the dealer was closed so I couldnt hear it run or drive it. It seems to be in pretty good shape. But looks can fool you too. I dont know much about the 6.5 so I was want Yalls input on it. What do I need to look for and be aware of when I do look and test drive it. I have been reading some on here and dont understand to much so far but I am trying to learn. I have heard the storys about 6.5's and alot of people tell me to run dont walk away from them. But I am a chevy man and I love diesels. So yalls input would be great. Oh forgot to tell you it has 166000 on it if that helps any and he is asking $4750 for it. Which I think KBB says it is worth $4200. Thanks Brad

make sure the engines cold when you go to look at it.

Check blowby(remove oil filler cap at idle, observe vapors, lots is bad. new engines have none.)

Check to see if the upper rad hose gets hard on cold start, if it does, run away. Bad headgaskets at least in this case.

See how it starts. white smoke means glow plugs aren't working right or injectors are worn.

There's more, but my head hurts and i can't think straight right now. :p:

You can probably do a search to find exactly what you're looking for. I'm sure it's been discussed here before.

Regarding the value - I prefer Edmunds.com - if this gets wiped out by the mods, just google edmunds. Not sure if it holds true still today but in the past KBB and others were not very accurate......actually, they're normally a little high whereas edmonds is a more accurate estimate of actual value in that particular location. Edmunds is recommended by Clark Howard.

And remember, very few used vehicles actually book 'outstanding' or 'exceptional'.

Good luck.

If you work at it a bit you may be able to get them to come down on the price - Considerably... Dealers (at least in our part of the country) can't give trucks away. The local Ford dealer had a *sale* a few weeks ago - If you bought a new F-150 they thru in a Focus for $.01....... Then the gas prices dropped, BUT Diesel is still up there.
NEGOTIATE - They REALLY WANT to get rid of the truck!
