Has anyone notice that the holes around the original equipment Allison spin on filter (part # 29539579) are in a position that you can see the holes when the filter is removed from the tranny - with the magnet still in place?

The Napa replacement part is # 7701. After pouring some ATF in the filter I placed the magnet on the new filter. The magnet clearly sits directly over the holes that are around the diameter of the replacement filter. I thought this was odd. Part # 7701 is printed on the side of the filter so I dont have a re-boxed situation.

I spun the new filter with the magent on, drove a few miles, no leaks, temp didn't raise out of the norm, seems OK.

Yes, this has been discussed before at length. Alot of guys use this filter, including myself. The general consensus was that since there is not a huge flow amount through these holes, it is not a concern. And there are no ill affects from using it and a company like Wix would not put something out that would not be good for our trucks.

By the way, I drove 100 miles one way today -with no tow. The transmission guage tempature read 150 dgrees once I hit the highway for a few miles (average speed 65 - 70 MPH). The tempature guage was always just a bit below that mark prior to replacing the stock filter. Air temp today was 50 degrees.
