I removed my heavy duty lumber rack off the 02 dually
and the OEM plastic bed caps are now pretty rough and
beat up.

Can anyone point me to a link with some choices to
cover-up this eye sore. I'd like to put an
aftermarket cap right over the existing OEM plastic.

Any help would be appreciated :help2:

To the top.....

Man does my truck look grungy now and if needs fixin.

Any dually owners who have added metal bed caps to their trucks?
Did you have to remove the OEM Plastic first or just put the caps over it? :help:

I didn't think there was any OEM plastic bed rail covers. Where they aftermarket put on by the dealer? I have heard of those. Or are you talking about the plastic tailgate cover?

I have diamond tread bedrail caps that you can order from pretty much any auto parts store I would think or maybe DZ makes some, any way, they mount right to the bed. i rivited mine down on top and on the inside edge.
If I had a pic I would post it.,
And by the way, i don't have a dually but the bed rails look the same. I believe the dually bedsides are fiberglass tho but most of the mounting is from the inside edge (metal).

on edit,
it looks like i was mistaken:rolleyes:, most all the duallys appear to have some sort of cap on the bedrails, so you can disregard this post:D or talk to one of the truck accessory outfits out there that sell the bed caps. I like mine anyway.

All the DRW trucks have these snap-on bed rail caps. They hide the upper attachment bolts and structure of the plastic bed side to bed.

These are easily replaced, and I think they were less than $50 each. When you remove one, you will likely have to replace it, as some of the plastic attachments will break.

pgreen.... thanks for that info. I could have my body shop order them,
but I really would like to go with just putting some metal caps on top of
the plastic OEM.

I'm sure someone has done this before on a dually with the unique
design of the fiberglass GM beds. (2001-2005)

I work at a parts store and have had an '01 and now an '05 dually and wanted to cover the side rails with aluminum diamond plate or stainless steel. I can't find anyone that makes it. IIRC DeeZee makes some caps but they don't roll over the edge/sides of the box. Just inside rail and topside, they don't roll over the odd shape of the dually sides.

I figured out a solution to my badly rust stained caps. I bought
a can of Krylon paint formulated for plastic application. I used
a rag to apply the paint over the rust and it looks like new plastic.
$4 vs paying $100 for new parts.

I still would like to see someone manufacture some metal caps.

Bumping this back as I'm now in the market for bed caps. Does anybody have any new intel on a supplier for either dimond plate or chrome bed caps that will fit our wide hip mommas.

Bump.

Just bought a set that i was assured would fit...but they don't. Broke all the plastic attachment tabs on the stock plastic cover taking one off, now i'm totally hosed.

Anyone found any that will fit in replacement of, or on top of, the stock caps?

Here's a supplier for diamond plate bed caps for the dually. http://www.pickupspecialties.com/Bed_Caps/Bed_caps_deezee_black_tread.htm I haven't been able to find stainless steel bed caps for the dually yet.

I just checked the Dee Zee web site and they are saying they also have the bed plates that will fit our duallys in stainless steel. I gave up on my search a few months ago after looking high and low. I'm wondering if this is a new product, or possibly an old listing for a product that is no longer made. If anybody follows up on this, let us know.

I'll be following up on it tomorrow. I'm going out of town for about two months on Thursday, and i need my shop to get these post-haste if their supplier has them in stock.

I'm almost betting that's an old page, however.

Jackpine, i'm from the Dayton area. What shops do you frequent in Columbus, if any?

If I don't want to wait, or want to give local shops some business, I've been going to a place called Pickups Plus in Hilliard. Phone is 614-529-1212. Like with most places, it pays to do your research on DP.com and internet first. They will do leg work with their suppliers which helps, and prices are pretty good.

Cool...i haven't heard of them.

I generally do all my own leg work to find the part number for what i want, then i call Midwest Truck in Springfield. This time i didn't, so i have no one to blame but myself. They're generally right on. I called with three different part numbers for tool boxes i wanted and they could get one of them. As an after-thought i asked about bed rail caps.

From what i'm seeing on websites, DeeZee's model 11988 and 11989 (with and without stake holes, plus "B" for black) should fit my 2003 3500 dually. We'll see what i can get out of MidWest tomorrow.

This straight from DeeZee:

Matt,

Unfortunately the 11998 will not fit your truck. The only bed caps I
have available for your truck is part number 11988B. Please note that
these are black and do have the stake holes.

Thanks,
Doug

Hope whoever wants them wants black like i do!
