: question with the famous icepick method
ryno2base 12-24-2008, 04:01 PM My truck has been throwing the p0202 code which means i need to do the famous icepick trick. However my truck already had the new gm parts put on prior to me owning the vehicle. I was noticing that there aren't any holes in the clip to do the icepick fix. Does anyone have a solution for me? Curious if i should make some holes or if there is another fix. Thanks in advance for any help.
briano 12-24-2008, 04:12 PM the ice pick creates the holes through the connector squeezing the metal clip inside.
you have the code, but your truck is running ok? It's not running on 7 cylinders??
ryno2base 12-24-2008, 04:14 PM No it throws the codes and runs like crap. Barely hits 30 mph. I understand the fix but my clip dosen't have the holes in it to stick the pick. Unless I just dont understand and im supposed to force the pick through the plastic and the metal?

Exactly, force the pick through the plastic and into the metal prongs. There are no "holes" in the connector from the factory.
ryno2base 12-24-2008, 04:32 PM I guess i just got confused with the pictures, they appeared to already have holes in them. Ill give it a go, thanks for the help. This web page is awesome, I can get on here and read for hours. Lots of smart helpful people.
JC1843 12-24-2008, 05:54 PM It raises a dimple inside the connector for better contact-- use a sharp ice pick and place the connector against a piece of metal to hold it. Also check the harness at the passenger side of the alternator for wear through. The sharp edge of the FICM bracket wears into the harness.
kodiak 12-24-2008, 07:58 PM Use a SHARP ice pick. Also, use a good di-electric grease to prevent corrosion. This should solve you problems.
briano 12-24-2008, 10:26 PM and be careful with the ice pick when doing this..it's hard at first until it softens..so be careful not to slip and poke a hole in you!
Merry Christmas!
JakeC 12-25-2008, 12:03 AM you could also have a wire shorting out in the harness that goes to the fuel injection control modual. check that as well. i have had a few trucks come in with false codes due the wires that chafed on the ficm and ground out.

Great advice,
believe me it is very painful and bloody to slip with the extremely sharp ice pick and have your finger waiting on the other side: Dont Ask How I Know!!!

Ouch! :Insane:
ryno2base 12-28-2008, 07:07 PM Just a quick update. Did the icepick fix and screwed it up. Im a moron. I crushed the prongs on the inside and then tried to force it back onto the injector just like a big dumb ape. So I guess I'll have to buy a new one and try it again. So let that be a lesson to anyone else trying this, take your time and try to be as careful as you can and you'll save yourself a little time and money.

Actually you just made me feel a little better about my fix method: atleast my finger healed up on its own with no additional $ involved in buying new parts!!!
Thanks
