I am trying to trace the reason why my radio just stopped producing volume but everything else (tuner, scan, presets etc) works fine and my door chimes stopped chiming. I know that they are related in someway but I am looking for an answer or prehaps a schematic of the radio harness/plug to be able to trace down where my problem is. It is a standard am/fm tuner without cd or onstar. Does anyone know if there is a separate chime module or does the ECM communicate directly to the radio to sound the chimes? Any help will be greatly appreciated, I am tired of having to listen to my mp3 player with headphones.

the chimes go through the stereo and speakers. maybe the stereo just broke.

im having the same problems with my 2003 silverado and i listen to headphones in the back too... ive been researching this problem for months the dealer told me it could be the head unit, amp, cd player itself, blown speaker, or bad wire i checked all my fuses and everything is good... any help is appreciated for me also. they also said it could be the body control module... not sure of any way to check this stuff myself without ripping the whole thing apart..

It's been a long time since I have been on DP, but I finally got the no volume thing fixed. I was told by many people the the radios in these vans a junk, so I got an aftermarket unit. The new radio did the same thing. I called the tech support from where I got it and he said that most radios have an internal circuit breaker the trips if any of the speaker wires are shorted, shutting off all the speaker, not just the one that is bad. Since this is a work van and it has no rear speakers, even though it has the harness, I simply cut both left rear speaker wires at the head unit and voila, radio now works. Wish I had done that months ago
