: popped 1093 cherry
smudge122 03-29-2005, 03:40 PM Well I did it. I got the 1093 bug. I was drivn' thru some tight S curves w/ the fuel lite about to come on at normal speed when it happened. I was in 100 hp mode on the predator w/ 7000 miles on stock fuel filter. I have read a couple of threads with guys getting the code in the same situations. I just wanted to bring it to lite again.:blahblah: :blahblah: :blahblah: I pulled over reset the code and drove her hard all the way home. She pulled hard and blew good smoke.. Wait to see if it happens again. Plan on changing filter and not running her so low on fuel again.:shootself
SethMcKinney 03-29-2005, 07:17 PM Thanks
CntrlCalDmax 03-29-2005, 08:58 PM Is there any connection between P1093 and additional fuel filters? What brand filter?
Has anyone reduced the occurrence of P1093 with a lift pump? If so, which pump setup?
Is there a box or programmer, currently available, that won't trip the code? Is anyone working on a tune that will address the problem? Is anyone setting the code stock?
If the Tech II can read the desired vs actual rail pressure, can a circuit be made to read desired and substitute the desired signal for the rail pressure sensor so that they always match?
Need help!! Can't even pass a ricer without the 2K limp!
smudge122 03-30-2005, 09:13 PM As soon as my LB7 buddy finishes his trans., we are going to figure out if that lift pump will help.....stay tuned.
smudge122 03-30-2005, 09:48 PM changed my mind just read Mcrat's "Huge" fuel starvation thread goin to shut the h*** up and do a lot more readn' and learn'n "a lot"!!!!!!!!!!
dpower 03-30-2005, 09:59 PM I have a feeling Mcrat and the left coasters will have this worked out shortly....I hope so anyways cause I am tired of clearing the dang 1093!!
on edit: I will say a full tank does help some....for me at least.
DSTRBD 03-31-2005, 12:03 AM I have yet to trip the 1093 with my current fuel system. This system (sump) is not for everyone, but it works. To be honest, the Airdog isnt even necessary. Just changing the pickup fixed the problem. I am still running the same Fuel filter I was before the fuel system install to rule out the 1093 being a filter issue. We will later be modifying the stock pickup for a different setup.
Diesel Tech 03-31-2005, 11:41 AM The P1093 is there for a reason, we can get rid of the light coming on and the limp mode with programming but what good does it do? The problem that caused the light in the first place is still there. If the rail pressure drops beond the limits set in the ECM you get the code set and the program goes into a protection mode to prevent engine damage. What needs to be found is why does the LLY seem to drop more pressure than the LB7 version. Adding a lift pump will solve the problem up to a point, changing the fuel tank around will solve the problem up to a point, but we need to understand the problem first then fix the cause. The fuel tank is the same between the LLY and LB7, The fuel pickup is the same between the LLY and LB7 so those are not the cause. Testing is on going and we will find a solution but it takes some time to do it right.
Z71 Grizzly 03-31-2005, 01:30 PM The fuel system setup is different for the LLY isn't it? Is there different size plumbing
Diesel Tech 03-31-2005, 02:17 PM The fuel filler and vent are different but the rest of it is the same I believe. When looking at my LLY and a LB7 everything else other than some routing differences look the same. The Engine parts are the same other than the turbo. There is a rumor that the injectors flow less which would make the problem better not worse, but I have not been able to confirm they do indeed flow less. The fuel filter was different but that has now been changed to the same one.
CntrlCalDmax 03-31-2005, 02:47 PM Steve,
My initial post was to see if I could help eliminate the problem while towing until a final cure is available. I can and do appreciate that it takes time to do things right but I'm looking for some help in the interim. After towing with a little help from a tune, it's tough to go back to stock. Does your comment "Adding a lift pump will solve the problem up to a point" mean up to a certain HP level or frequency of occurance? If adding a pump will help, I will install one. Just trying to learn a little before a upcoming trip.

Rambeater 04-19-2005, 09:42 PM I'm in the same boat as you central cal dmax. I use and abuse my dmax with heavy loads and plenty of speed. I had the predator in 65 hp when I'm working. I tripped the 1093 code and then put it back to stock. Now it is terrible. Just today I pulled a medium duty load on an aluminum trailer of mine. I went about 120 miles round trip to the jobsite and back. I bet in the 120 miles I reset the code 23 times. I can't give it more than a quarter throttle or the light comes on. I'm ready to drive it off a cliff. Any help on what to do would be appreciated. Thanks.
McRat 04-19-2005, 10:18 PM #1 change your fuel filter. Even if you changed it yesterday. I had a OEM that was only days old throw 1093's so bad the truck was not driveable with a "tune" in it.
#2 if your filter is clean, I'm not sure a lift pump is going to make the problem go away. Didn't with mine.
#3 it is tuner dependant. Some tuners throw it a lot, others don't. Predator is a Medium Offender. Edge on kill is a Medium offender. TTS #2 is about the Least Likely to Fk-Up. All tuners over 80HP can do it. I'm testing a new tuner that is aimed at eliminating it. Need more hrs though.
#4 I found a stack that will throw it cruising. Set cruise on 75mph, wait 60 seconds or less, and BOOWWWW!!!! frickin' croaks.
At this point, I want a "band-aid". A code eliminator. I wish I knew enough to figure out how to fix it, but I don't.

I have the same problem when I set off the 1093 on the freeway, but when I come to a complete stop, it goes away. It's annoying enough when I have to do a complete stop to get rid of the problem and I couldn't imagine what you're going through. I would suggest changing the fuel filter. Good Luck!

Dealer R & R my High Pressure Relief Valve -- claimed had some bad ones they didn't catch. So far, So good.
Good Luck.
