Just did a trip to the big TO this morning from Barrie: had changed primary oil filter as well as secondary, replaced the ally spin on, new oil (Castrol GTX 10W-40), topped off the Transynd (leaking lines of course.!), and looking at my secondary fuel filter..thought nah..don't need to change it just yet. (WRONG). Anyway, drop off nephew at Pearson Airport go back in truck..and it limps away without going into 3 rd. WTF..??

check the Banks for OBDII codes and sure enough:

Mass Air flow
Manifold air pressure
EGR

Outside temp -13C
Road conditions: slushy big time.!

All 3 of the codes that came up made me think and do some deductions, figure it is an issue with air flow or too much air and not enough fuel.

Drive unit slowly with the 4 ways flashers going, on the 401 to Mississauga to our Co. warehouse, pull it in and took a look at the pass wheel well..sure enough, totally caked with frozen slush and snow..OK says I, let er thaw.

1 hour later start it up, check for codes..all clear. Great figures I, pull it out of the warehouse and into parking lot and doesn't the motor shut down. once again, WTF..??

Well then I remember that I had driven some 40,000 kilometers on my OEM fuel filter while waiting to receive a box of 6 (OEM's), of em - All the while relying on my secondary to do the job. I had just last week replaced the OEM but left he secondary on. So change the secondary, prime with the OEM hand pump...Vrrrooom ..!! a sweet sound indeed, especially with no codes.

Drive back to Barrie and all good.

Now had I not done my reading here in the past 2 years, the truck would be on the back of a tow truck going to my local stealer. For that, I say many thanks to those that have posted here in the past with similar issues and allowed me to figure out the problems.!

Given that I have a 600Km trip planned tomorrow for Christmas..this site is a godsend.!!

To end: A very Merry Christmas to all of the thousands here and lets hope that 2009 will keep our great Northern America region afloat, we all keep jobs, we all drive safe and have an awesome holiday.!!

:D

Had nearly the same thing happen to me today. Truck threw 3 codes 106, 299, 700. Cleared them and 106 came back in and kept truck in 3rd gear at 25 MPH. Contact dealer and they said "ice on MAP sensor". Pulled MAP and it did have an oily liquid. Cleaned off and truck is fixed. I guess I'll plug it in since we've hit single digits.

ask the dealer about the map sensor relocate kit so it wont freeze

The relocate is no more, now the fix is to fabricate and install a 1.5" extension cut at a 45 to act as a venturi and wick the moisture from the sensor before it freezes. Been doing them for @1yr. but has now become the official procedure/fix.

No wonder the service manager didn't have a clue what I was talking about when I ask about the MAP relocate kit!!!:p: Of course, he didn't know much about anything I ask....

The relocation kit was available up to the beginning of December, now there is no mention of it anywhere in the service information, been replaced by the above procedure.
