40K, great service since new and haul a 13K fifth wheel RV. No issues. I changed the spin on tranny filter at 5K. I want to drain the tranny pan, change the filter and replenish the fluid. How much fluid will need to be replaced? Thanks in advance. Jet Wrench:D

without looking at my owners manual I think I want to remember 16 qts or less. I vaguely remember full fill with new trans and new converter only being somn like 22-24 qts.(also with extra deep pan)

replacing internal filter too or just the external?
you need to change your spin-on more often.
replacing the pan and internal filter should be at least 7 quarts - usually closer to 10.

Check the DYI section, but IIRC it is 7.5 qts, plus a litlle extra for the spin on. Double check though. The DYI has it listed.

I have done this several times. I always fill up the spin on before I put it back on and then put 7 qts. in the tranny. Comes out right on the full mark.

x2 buy 8 quarts to be safe. If you did the hoot method which you actually should with pulling that 13K 5'er then it would be around 18 quarts.

7.4 quarts to be exact.
and yes, it needs to be exact. no more, no less.

what do you not understand about that statement?

If you read that from a gm document you will see that is says approximate on it. Approximate means that there are variables involved. Could take more could take less.
One person said they put in 7 and it read right at the top of full. Had they done 7.4 as you say it must have they would be about a half quart overfilled and once it got hot would be all over the their tranny.
That's what I don't understand about your poor statement.
