I have been looking for a used 2500 4x4 diesel and I was hoping to get some feedback on what year truck to look for. Bottom line I want to go for a truck that is less likel y to have any major problems and give me several good years of life. I know the earlier trucks had injector issues. What year truck is a good one to go after? In what year did the Alison 6 speed come out and is it worth going for? Also what years get the best fuel economy when the proper mods are done do it?

Thanks
Rob

Depending on what you want to spend, I would try for the LBZ. Most power with no DPF. 6 speeds came out on the 06 models I believe. I think they all can get similar fuel economy with the right mods. My lb7 may have gotten slightly better than my lbz, but not by much. Some LLYs had overheating issues, but I don't know much about that since I never owned one.

I think any model would be good, plenty of info on here to read up on. Just make sure you know a little about the truck before you buy it, like had it been modded, used for pulling, properly maintained, etc.

Good luck with your search and let us know what you end up with!

2005 seems to be a good model LLY engine 5 speed Ally. Major thing to start with on that is change the stock mouthpiece out and its a good truck. A few more mods and you have a great truck with really good mpg.

2006 LBZ has the 6 speed is a good truck and pre DPF. Will cost you more obviously since its a year newer and may carry a small premium due to the 6 speed not sure.

Either truck in good shape should last you a long long time anything under 200,000 and your just getting started. Anything under 100k and its just been broken in.

If the truck you buy doesn't have records for service just change every fluid and filter in the truck and that way you have a starting point for your records. Before you buy a truck get the VIN number and post it here. There are people on the site that will post the build sheet and all records of service or complaints done at the dealer.

Good luck and let us know how its going.
